Watched a bit of the
Health Care Bill last night.
Got woken up early this morning
by KEEP The BEET Media
Star, the World's First
Talking Beet Plant.
She was repeating
what BEN FRANKLIN
a founding father of America
said, "An Ounce of Prevention
is worth a pound of cure."
Gosh, true Health Care and Healthy Food Safety
are one in the same. We have
so lost the beat. We deeply
need to return to being
a nation of gardeners
to get the beet back.
Food Safety Bill #HR 2749.
I was listening to BoB olson
last night for the first time.
He kept asking, "Make Food Safe for WHO?"
Yikes! WHO is in charge here??????

Ben, we need you and the original founding
Fathers of the American Dream to step up.
We cannot do this ourselves.
Is it to spiritual to say,
"In God We Trust." ???
We really need help now
as a nation.
#HR 2749 did not come

Tuesday. Likely Wednesday,
July 29, 2009, #HR 2749 will

Dear Friend,
This bill #HR2749 is scheduled to be voted on Tuesday, July 28, 2009.
If it gets a 23 vote yes, it passes without any further discussion in the house.
As of last week, most of the people who gave testimony saw major flaws.
The Farr-Kaptur Amendment, that was suggested by leading
local organic farmers who have been deeply involved was not accepted
in HR 2749. They advised to only vote yes, if these amendments were included.
I have been following this bill night and day for two weeks, or more.
This Food Safety Enhancement Act FSEA needs serious amendments
to make it a good bill. The Future of Food as we know it now deserves
more than 40 minutes on the House Floor, limited by discussion.
We need a good Health Food Safety Bill that takes care of the sources
of contaminated food (processing) while honoring the value and importance
of our smaller farmers what they need to continue growing therapeutic quality food
free from additional and unnecessary oversight by an agency, the FDA, that
understands best the pharmaceutical scientific and sterile way of viewing the farm.
Take action now. There is enough background below to
give you reason to ask your legislator to vote no.
There are a ton of PLANT YOUR DREAM BLOGS
that I have written on this subject.

URGENT Contact Your Representative -
HR 2749 House Vote on Tuesday!
The House of Representatives is scheduled for a vote on HR 2749 (The Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009) on Tuesday, July 28 (tomorrow).
HR 2749 will be voted "on suspension", meaning that debate will be limited to 40 minutes and no amendments will be considered. A two-thirds vote will be required for HR 2749 to pass. The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund is asking everyone to contact their U.S. Representatives requesting that they vote against HR 2749.
Industrial food processors and food imports need effective regulation, but this should not be done at the expense of the 'local food system. HR2749 will impose burdensome regulations on small farmers and local food producers including registration fees and extensive paperwork requirements for which many small food businesses will not have the resources to comply. The 'local food system' is not the source of the food safety problems in this country, small farmers and local artisanal producers are part of the solution.
HR 2749 would reduce FDA's accountability while significantly increasing its power. The bill would empower FDA to conduct warrantless searches of business records without any evidence whatsoever that a violation has occurred, to order a quarantine prohibiting or restricting the movement of food in a geographic area. HR 2749 also creates severe criminal and civil penalties with the potential for substantial fines for even minor violations of the law.
Urge your Representative to vote against HR 2749 and support a food safety bill that will target imports and industrial foods while leaving small farmers and local food producers alone.
Three Ways to Contact your Representative:
1. Sign two petitions: FTCLDF Petition http://bit.ly/Oppose_HR2749
and AAHF Petition http://bit.ly/g6IJT
2. Go to "My Elected Officials" at http://www.congress.org
and enter your zip code to find your legislators. Call and/or send a fax.
3. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to contact your Representative's office.

“I’m playing with the story of an actual beet
that decided she was tired of just sitting
in the ground, watching the human race
become more and more fragmented,
and the beet, whose name is Keep the Beet,
decided to speak up,” said Goldman,
also known to friends as The Enchanted Gardener.
Keep the Beet encourages people to make friends
with a local, organic farmer; purchase the largest beet
they can find and repot it, keeping it alive
as it sprouts billowing, edible green leaves.
