Bio Degradation Plastic Bag Demo #1
Perf Go Green Demonstation started this
January 30, 2009 introducing a conventional
plastic bag and a Perf Go Green Trash bag
into a pot of Foxfarm Potting soil.
THe purpose of this experiment
is to test the bio-degradability of
pieces of Perf Go Green Trash Bag.
The Bags are said to naturally decompose
into biomass in two years or less.
ConVentional Plastic bags take about
800 years to decompose.

VISIONS OF THE NEW EARTH

February 6, 2009
Rains cleanse. I am going out to collect rainwater in
the Yellow Buckets that grow KEEP the BEET Media Star,
The World's First Talking Beet Plant.
I am going to create a second Perf Go Green biodegradation
pot to demonstrate for myself that Perf Go Green
will biodegrade into harmless biomass within two years or less.
This is my second demonstration, to put to rest all the
opinions on the internet that say it is not possible for something
like this to actually be possible.
It is the End of the World as we know it.
It is time to feel not only fine, but good about our future.
Healthy skepticism is the beginning
of the return to innocence.
There is nothing wrong with questioning,
investigating, and proving for ourselves that
new inventions work.
Many of the technologies we have invented
in the last 100 years regarding plants
and our earth have not had the well being
of the earth at heart.
I know one thing about the people at
PERF Go Green. They are up to good.
I have met TONY TRACY, the CEO and President.
I have spent time with LINDA DANIELS, the
PERF GO GREEN Marketing Director.
I have a great appreciation for TONY TOROK,
the Creative Director of the new Perf Go Green
EARTH DOME EXPERIENCE. He is making
a great film called EARTH TO GO that is
being underwritten by PERF GO GREEN.
I am starting to get to know some of the
other players in this organization.
They keep their word. They return phone calls.
They remember promises and have excellent followup.
Vision is again needed in our world.
new ideas are needed.
It is time to return to a Space of Love.
It is Time to return to a Space of innocence
that comes from having a little garden,
even if you define your garden as One Pot
where you have a beet root that is growing to
root you.
I am coming out of chaos today.
I am not in touch with all my beautiful organization
of Super Ripe Images. I had hundreds of hours of
photo organization go down about a month ago.
I started a new organization of photos,
and now the Old Photo organization is showing up again
on another part of the computer.
I am not sure if I have the energy or time to connect the two
right now, but I know that all the time and energy
I am putting in now on these following
PERF GO GREEN EXPO Los Angeles Blogs
will come to good.
This Plant Your Dream Blog,
VISIONS OF THE NEW EARTH continues here.
Read below for the History of my Perf Go Green Biodegrading Demonstration #1
where I am out to show myself that the words
on the plastic Drop Cloth bag are for real:
"Our Go Green technology speeds up
the natural breakdown of our plastics

It' started to rain.
I am going to unfold the Perf Go Green Plastic Drop Cloth
on my stuff under the Olive Tree.
Looking at the package.
I am annoyed with how many negative comments
there are when I Google Perf Go Green.
Is it Biodegradable, one person writes
under the Video?
Why would a company put so much effort into
what to move a product into the world that they
say is Biodegradable if this were not the case?
The package says, ASTM D6954 Compliant.
That means it is biodegradable.

This is the standard from the Web Site:
Note 1—The intended use of this guide is for comparison and ranking
of data to aid in the design and development and the reduction of environmental
impacts of polymers that require no more than 24 months to oxidize and biodegrade
in the intended use and disposal options and create no harmful
or persistent residues under the appropriate disposal conditions
(for example, two seasons of crop-growing conditions in soil).

Perf Go Green patented products are made of recycled plastics that are combined with an Oxo-Biodegradable proprietary application method to produce the film for the bags. When discarded in soil and exposed to the presence of microorganisms, moisture and oxygen, Perf Go Green products biodegrade, decomposing into simple materials found in nature much faster than regular plastics, which can take hundreds of years to break down. Through this process and the use of recycled plastics, the company effectively removes plastic waste from the environment.
Founded in November 2007, Perf Go Green premiered at the March 2008 International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago, where its products received an honor for their design quality and innovation. In addition to offering its products online, Perf Go Green is rolling out its first items in nationwide chain stores later this year.
On Friday, January 30, I cut up a conventional
plastic bag and a Perf Go Green Trash bag.
I buried the plastic materials in high quality
Foxfarm Potting soil. I took photos of this process.
I plant KEEP the BEET Media Star,
The World's FIrst Talking Beet Plant in the pot.
My aim is to record the process
of Biodegradation of the Perf Go Green Trash Bag.

As discussed, here is the list of benefits of our additive incorporated PE bags:
No plastic fragments after bio-degradation
Retain physical properties of conventional plastic bags
Reusable and recyclable
No toxic effects
FDA (USA), CFIA / HC (Canada) and EFSA (EU) compliance
Reduces the volume of plastic waste in a landfill
Through biodegradation, allowing garbage in plastic garbage bags to biodegrade aerobically preventing
the generation methane which is formed when biodegradation is anaerobic and is about
24 times more harmful as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide

Wha it says:
This product, when discarded in soil in the presence of microorganisms, moisture and oxygen,
will BIODEGRADE decomposing into simple materials found in nature, as described in ASTM D6954-04.
This product is DeGRADABLE when discarded in landfill witin 12 to 24 months.

EPI develops, manufactures, distributes and sells: (a) chemical additives to manufacturers of finished plastic products in the packaging, agricultural and composting industries and (b) degradable landfill cover and wrap systems to customers in the solid waste management industry. The principal chemical additives sold by EPI are proprietary oxo-biodegradable plastic additives (Totally Degradable Plastic Additives™ or “TDPA™”) and speciality chemical foaming and purging agents (“CFA”). The EPI group of companies has been working since the early 1990’s in developing an affordable additive technology to help manage some of the environmental issues that derive from the excellent long term stability of single use plastic products. EPI’s Totally Degradable Plastic Additives (TDPA™) technology accelerates the rate at which the most common plastics degrade by several orders of magnitude.

Leslie has cut up and thorn portions of a 20 gallon
size PERF GO GREEN BIO DEGRADABLE TRASH BAG
and placed in about two or more inches from the bottom
of a reused Miso Yellow Contrainer where I grow.
He has taken close up photos of the writings on
the Perf Go Green bag.
He has also cut up a HDPE #2 Conventional Plastic Bag
and placed that as well at the same layer in this Yellow
container.
He has then filled the rest of the container
with FOXFARM Pottling Soil made of Bat Quano
and Worm Castings.
He has then put a few earthworms and their unfinished and finished
compost near the top of the pot.
He has watered this pot with rainwater about two weeks all filled
with microorganisms and other microbial life in various states.
There is bit of the Go Green Bag visible at the top from one piece
that connects the lower layers to the top. He has also placed
a piece of bamboo leaf material in the pot.

Got a good comment...before I was finished with this blog....
The end result of this...
is eaten by microorganism and decomposes into a natural biomass
that feeds plants. That is the claim. It goes into a natural decomposition.
It does not leave plastic parts behind.
Petroleum is made from Oil...where does oil come from, sez KEEP the BEET.
It is a part of the earrth to begin with. It starts with natural substances
that are turned into products that are harmful.
Normal Bags last for 800 years.
What if we can take the old plastic bags and turn them into
new bags that naturally decompose???
What if there can be a technology that takes the old bags,
turns into into new bags, and the new bags go back
to their biomass, inherent molecules...the same that
made up the oil in the first place????
That is the Vision.
I want to show healthy plants growing from the molecules
that will break down.
I have soil particles here that are 6 million (or so years old)
The orginal soil particles, when broken down can do support
plant life that is very healthy.
The original word "plastic" was used hundreds of years ago...
to mean something other than how we use it today:
I was first introduced to this use of the word when
I studied ALEXANDER POPE in his ESSAY ON MAN.
This poem is all about Nature.
"See plastic nature working to this end"(Epistle 3, line 9).
Here Pope uses a common word that back then meant something different
than what we usually attribute to the word today.
Plastic is more commonly a noun today, we would likely use the word plasticity
if we were looking for the meaning of Pope's use of "plastic".
The footnote says that "plastic" refers to the "formative power accorded to nature by God"(139).
I speculate that if Pope wrote this today he would use the word plasticity, or something similar,
but certainly not plastic. The mutability of nature however, is well related here and througout the poem.
http://people.stu.ca/~hunt/18c/33360102/finlwebs/GSDWY/rudee.htm
What if can, through Technology, once again return
what we now turn into plastic into the formative power...
the essential particles once again???
Molecules for good use?
