E-coli 057H7 and Raw Milk
An excerpt (from the transcript on "Raw Milk: The Whole Truth" regarding E-coli 057H7 and supporting reference.

Here's the whole context in which that was talked about in "Raw Milk: The Whole Truth":
"... we are able to have more cows in a raw milk setting, without having the problems that big dairies have, by the fact we are always putting the cows on a green set of pastures.
That pasture does not like pathogenic bacteria. It is a bio-diverse, sun radiated, wonderfully growing, irrigated, green, lush environment that is anti-pathogenic and pro-biotic. It is a bio-diverse environment which is an ecosystem that’s fully alive.
That is not the same kind of system you see in a conventional dairy farm where you have the cows confined with a big pile of manure! There is nothing biologically diverse about that at all! A big pile of crap is dangerous because the cows are given BST hormone to increase their production artificially, they are given tons of grain to increase their production artificially, they are given antibiotics to reduce any kind of problems they have with infection because the production is so high, their immune systems are depressed.
That set of circumstances causes all kinds of problems with pathogens being created in the manure, which you can test, by just testing the manure. You find the e-coli 057H7, you find salmonella rampant, you may even find some other things, campylobacter, listeria, and it’s a disaster.
And it’s a man-made set of conditions. At Organic Pastures Dairy and other people that grass-feed, that raw milk is perfectly safe. And we know that, because we’ve got 70 million servings and zero pathogens detected by any organization, FDA, USDA, Fresno County Health Department, ourselves and BSK labs. It's phenomenal!
It is literally a paradigm shift, it's an earthquake between these two realms. Thirty-one percent of the time in farm milk tanks have a pathogen present in California. University study.
We haven’t found one in seven years!"

read:
"Grain feeding cattle encourages the growth of E. coli, whereas grass feeding does not. Even
if a human were to consume E. coli from a grass‐fed cow, it would not survive in the digestive tract.
Diez‐Gonzalez, F., et al. (1998). 'Grain‐feeding and the dissemination of acid‐resistant Escherichia coli from Cattle.' Science 281, 1666‐8.
Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency know that there are vast differences between animals that are grass‐fed versus animals that are grain‐fed. They have conducted their own research showing that E. coli practically disappears when cows are out on pasture.
Conscientious consumers are familiar with the differences between grass-fed and grain-fed cows and have consciously chosen to buy raw milk from small family farms where cows have the opportunity to graze on open pastures. Any law that interferes with a consumer’s opportunity to buy raw milk from small family farms is depriving conscientious consumers of their personal freedoms."
Enjoy your raw milk! And if you dare, your kefir as well!
