John just left.
He was here about an hour.
We sat on the side porch outside the kitchen.
Then, when he had ten minutes left,
I thought we could go in the back to look at my boxes.
I forgot that he had parked in back of me in front of the house.
It is so easy to forget that we need a parking permit to park there.
Chef Jem announced, "Is that your black car? You got a ticket!"
I offered to pick it up.
John said, he had money.
I didn't take care my my friend very well.
I feel bad.
John once ran for governor of California.
He was one of the most esteemed in the California legislature.
He was a state senator for many years before they passed a law limiting
time to serve. Then, he went on to the Assemby for eight years.
He invited me to come up and dog him for about a week during his final term.
That was an experience I will never forget, the Enchanted Gardener let loose for
a week in the State Capital of Sacramento. Lots of great photos.
John really served during the time he was in Sacramento.
He entered personal growth work on himself at the same time he entered politics.
He was the man who helped make Self Esteem a hoursehold word.
That is one of his accomplishments, among many others.
He brought the word Self Esteem into the politcal arena when he helped
create a Task Force to study it.
Jack Canfeld and Virginia Satir were among his friends and on that task force.
I met John sometime in the early 80's. He is a very loyal friend.
His heart is in the right place.
We talked of a number of things.
We talked about the election.
"Do you think Obama has a change to defeat the Republicans?"
I asked.
It is too early to tell, he said.
He told me that Obama is supported 4-1 by the younger people.
He said that if not this election, they young people will be the majority by the next election.
They do not see color and gender as an issue for them.
The thought of four more years of the same ol' same ol' is weighing heavy on me.
I feel that the people behind John McCain and Sarah Palin are making a mochery of the
Political system. Obama doesn't seem to know what to do, and the Democrats I hear put out
one new ad in the last 24 hours as well I feel is out of integrity with truth.
I would hate to see Obama and the Democrats lower themselves to go after the vote
in a way that really makes a further mochery of the political process.
There are so many legitimate issues about McCain and Palin to look at.
We do not need to make up stories about them that are Manipulating the Truth.
That is what John Vasconcellos is all about now:
The Politics of Trust. Amen. We really need this now.
We took some photos while John was here, one with KEEP the BEET Media Star
and some with Job's Tears.
My heart is heavy still with the decluttering.
We talked about that.
He shared that he has been a book reader all his life.
No T.V. He had 7000 books. He is down to about 1500.
He has four more boxes of letters and papers.
He wants to get through those.
He sends his stuff to the University of Santa Barbara
Humanistic Psychology Archives. The Archives for Carl Rogers,
a dear friend, and Virginia Satir are there.
John helped set up that library.
John told me that there may be a History of the New Age
written one of these days, and that library may be able to hold
some of the things I have.
I have some photos I could send at the least for the Archives
that already exist.
About my things:
"Shed it so you can do what you really want to do,"
he told me.
