Preparation day. (Starting juice fast tomorrow.)
Really looking forward to this!
Date: 8/17/2008 4:04:51 AM ( 16 y ) ... viewed 1960 times I've been to the fruit market this weekend and bought an organic cabbage, a 5kg bag of organic carrots and 4kg of organic Braeburn apples. I got a few limes and tamarillos and a good size piece of fresh ginger root to add some interest. I also got two big bunches of parsley, two bunches of celery and a kilo of packham pears. The latter (non organic produce) have all been washed in warm water then soaked with bicarbonate, vinegar and a few drops of grapefruit oil then warm washed again, drip dried and put in the (bursting at the seams) fridge. Will wash the organic stuff tonight.
I reckon I have four or five days fruit and veges supply there - enough to get me over the first detox hurdle.
I made a litre of good vegetable broth to see me through tomorrow night and into Tuesday. Hope to make some to keep in the freezer tomorrow morning.
I'll also use carbonated mineral water for the first few days (with a squeeze of lemon or lime juice.) I'm not sure if this is totally legit in a fast (?) but it works for me in those first few days, evenings especially, when I'm missing something to eat!
Family stuff: I baked the kids lunchbox treats for the week and put a couple of meals away in the freezer. Made a meal plan for the week so hopefully no stress or dramas there. Have arranged for my mother to collect eldest from school Mon and Tues afternoons.
...My intention is to juice fast from Monday 18th until Wednesday 27th August. I need to be super-organised or demands of caring for my family will overwhelm my best intentions to take care of myself and it will fall to pieces! I always find the first 3 - 4 days a challenge while the digestive system adjusts to no solid input and the detox headaches kick in.
I usually have another detox "crisis" around day 7 or 8 from memory so hopefully that will coincide with hubby being home over next weekend.
I also bought psyllium husks to help with elimination. This is IMPORTANT. I need to flush every day - salt water or enema - or else I get progessively fatigued and a Monster headache and the feeling I can't continue. I'll take 2 tsp psyllium in a glass of water 2 times a day and see how that goes. I'll have to try salt water flushing after dropping B at school - I need a couple of hours clear for that particular daily Event!
I'll try and update once or twice daily :)
Really looking forward to this!
Annie.
