INTRODUCTION:
The ULTIMATE DOG LOVER
coming out this Fall from HCI
Dogs have always been an important and highly visible part of our lives.
Archelogists have found evidence of them curled up with ancient masters, and art throughout
the ages has celebrated the bond between our kind and theirs. Those of us who live
in the new "dog culture," who love and lavish attention on our pampered pooches, now
just how endeared and important they have become to us. Wer dont just want dogs,
we need them.
In fact, it is the strength of the human-animal bond and the growing importance
of pets to families that spawned this book's creation. With dozens of dog books
on our own shelves, we talked with hundreds of pet owners, veterinarians, and booksellers
to create a book that was different. Better. We settled on a book with three pillars;
heartwarming stories, amazing photographs, and must-know information.
In our careers poeple have asked us any and every question under the sun
as it relats to their furry friends. Like anxious parents comparing their kid's
milestones--the first step, the first time using the potty--dog owners compare
notes at the doggie park or at doggie day care: "Is it natural that he doesn't
come when I call him?" to "Why is he so afraid at the dog park." Here we've
assembled what we consider essential information for dog lovers and dog owners--
plus a few fun things thrown in--that we hope will help you with with, care for,
and love your dog even more.
Dogs love us, teach us, heal us, make us laugh, and break our hearts
with their passing. But perhaps dogs help us most of all by giving us an
important outlet for our love. At at time when keeping the human connections
together seems to be so difficult, a four-legged family member can help keep us
engaged, and--sutdies show--help us to connect with other people.
Our dogs provide physical well-being. They relieve chronic pain, lift our spirits,
sniff our cancer, lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure, improve survivablility
from heart attacks, detect seizures and migraines, and lower risk of alergies and asthma.
They also offer emotional rescues, helping us thoruhg a relationship breakup, a rough day
at work or school, or even a had hair day--or a no hair day, for those in chemotheraphy.
Dogs don't care who you are or what you look like. They love you.
Hold your dog close; Look into those dancing, liquid-filled eyes, witness the rhythm
of the breathing and the tempo of the heartbeat, fele the warmth and softness of yoru dog's coat
brushing against your skin, and you will experience all of the comfort and compassion you need to thrive,
not just survive, in this topsy-turfy world that sometimes confuses, disappoints, and makes us sick.
Dogs love us for who and what we are--and even in spite of who and what we are. They don't care
if we're famous, powerful, attractive, rish or important--we're all that and more in their eyes.
This amazing ability of theirs is all vividly and lovingly showcased in The Ultimate Dog Lover.
Read this book and reap the benefits that unconditional love, limitlss affection, and to-die-for
loyalty a well-chosern, well trained, well-cared for dog can bring.
