The "Milk Problem"

"An historical, scientific, and practical essay on milk as an article of human sustenance; with a consideration of the effects consequent upon the present unnatural methods of producing it for the supply of large cities." By Robert M. Hartley

It's too easy to point to "the milk problem" and then condemn all milk!

When you can consider the whole history of milk, then it has only been recently that there has been a "milk problem"; starting since shortly after the War of 1812. Prior to the advent, at the time, of what is known as "distillery dairies", milk was not a problem. Milk had always been a basic nourishing food and a vital necessity for many cultures going back to the beginning of animal husbandry. (I will elaborate in my transcript of the first hour DVD program.) But after the cows were removed from their natural health-building diet of "salad bar" pastures, the wasted grain slop from the distilleries made the cows sick and (of course) their milk as well. Then there was a "problem" with the milk! Soon pasteurization came into these dairy operations in an attempt to save that poor milk (that never should have been saved. It was a terrible mess and I will spare you of the details!)

However, wise farmers (like the Amish) continued their small, family dairies; feeding their cows as they always have with green pastures and their milk was used in the Mayo Clinic! The problem with milk today is fundamentally the same as it has been since "distillery dairies". No one needs that kind of milk! I do not recommend it for any human consumption! The grain- (and other item) feeding of cows is one of the first culprits to be aware of when we look at "the milk problem". Yet real, healthy milk has never ever been a problem! The key is finding the real, healthy milk and not condemning all milk because of some version of "distillery" madness! Milk from green pasture sources, that are dedicated to basic cleanliness and where you can actually see the cows is where you will find milk that is suitable for human consumption.

Then once you have "real milk" you can actually make it better by culturing it in a number of ways! Many localities with local chapters of the Weston A. Price Foundation
http://www.westonaprice.org are most blessed to have local people willing to share their expertise & knowledge in the old traditional food ways of what the old cultures have done with their milk, making many wonderful products that not only increase it's nourishing capacities but also offer the palate a wide spectrum of assorted tasty experiences!

If you think you have a problem with milk then first ask yourself whether that is based on the grain-fed, pasteurized and homogenized commercial invention of a "mad distillery dairies" or whether it is based on the real milk that mother nature intended it to be. I will bet that it's based on the former and that chances are you have never even tasted "the real McCoy!"!

Want to know more? Get a copy of "The Raw Milk Controversy: Fact & Fiction" AKA "Real Milk: the Whole Truth" and listen to Dr. Dale Jacobson, DC as he interviews Mark McAfee in a two-part conversation that I produced in Nevada City, California.
In the near future there will also be a transcript available that will include the science references mentioned in the DVD!

There really is a difference between "the two milks". As Mark says it is "a world of a difference"! Just taste and see!
