Stress, from Valerie Saxion Newsletter

There have been many cases of the elderly being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease whose problem were later found to be due to a deficiency of B-12 plus the B-complex.

The B-vitamins should always be taken together. Typically if you have a deficiency in one of the B's before long you will have a deficiency in one of the others.

Stress!!!

Sixty percent of Americans say they're significantly stressed  on a weekly basis.  Nearly that same number are also significantly overweight.  Ummmmm, that should tell us something!

  •     Stress is different for everyone
  •     For some stress is an addiction
  •     Some handle it very well, while others can't handle it at all.
  •     While some think they're sick, all along it's really the side effects of stress.
  •     Are you stressed or are you sick???

    Possible symptoms of stress
    1.    Fatigue
    2.    Chronic headaches
    3.    Irritability
    4.    Changes in Appetite
    5.    memory loss
    6.    low self esteem
    7.    withdrawal
    8.    teeth-grinding
    9.    cold hands
    10.  high blood pressure
    11.  shallow breathing
    12.  nervous twitches
    13.  low sex drive
    14.  insomnia
    15.  other sleep patterns
    16.  GI problems

These are the most common symptoms and it's only the beginning.

Stress is a killer, you can't stop stress in your life!  But you can stop the way your body deals with it.

Stress for some might be too many dirty dishes, for others a crazy teenager and for others and family member with a life threatening illness.

How does your body respond to stress?

Do you sail through or do you crumble?  Do you fall apart and feel like you've been digging a ditch for several hours?

Today everyone is dealing with stress!   I have not seen any exceptions.  So what do we do?

80% of disease in the body is being fueled by stress.

There are three essentials we must have!   If you're alive, you're at risk for a stress attack and your body must be ready to deal with it.

    Stress Reliever #1

    1.    B-Complex:    Water soluble vitamins, often found in foods!  Essential for life.  Most people are deficient in B vitamins.

    B Vitamins are:
    • Biotic
    • Choline
    • Folic Acid
    • Inositol
    • Lipoic acid
    • Para aminobenzoic acid (also known as paba)
    • B-1
    • B-2
    • B-3
    • B-5
    • B-6
    • B-12
B-vitamins help to maintain the health of the nerves, skin, eyes, hair, liver, and mouth as well as health muscle tone in the GI tract and proper brain function.

B-Complex vitamins act as coenzymes, helping enzymes to react chemically with other substances, and are involved in energy production.

They may be useful for alleviating depression or anxiety as well.  Adequate intake of B-vitamins is very important for elderly people because these nutrients are not as well absorbed as we age.

When under stress these vital nutrients are depleted within an hour and must be replaced!!!

    Things that Deplete B-Vitamins are:

  •     Antacids
  •     Antibiotics
  •     Aspirin
  •     Caffeine
  •     Clonidine
  •     Steroids
  •     Digitalis
  •     Estrogen preparations
  •     Ethanol - alcohol
  •     Oral Contraceptives
  •     Penicillin and derivatives
  •     Phenobarbitol
  •     Dilantin
  •     Prednisone
  •     Spironolactone
  •     Sulfa drugs
  •     Synthetic neurotransmitters - expound
  •     Bactrim, and Septra,

These and a whole lot more.....So if you're wondering why you're stressed...wonder no more!

We covered the essentials of B-Vitamins.  Now, what else keeps you from the pitfall of stress attacks?

    Stress Reliever #2

    2.  Probiotics:  If anti-biotics deplete B-vitamins then it makes sense the good bacteria that is probiotics make your B-Vitamins more effective you must have enough good bacteria to facilitate B vitamins in your system.

Good bacteria such as Bifidus facilitates the synthesis of B Vitamins within the intestines.  And what's the use in taking them if you can't use them?  HUH!

With good bacteria and B-Complex you get the biggest bang for your buck!

    Stress Reliever #3

    3.  Minerals:  Every living cell on this planet depends on minerals for proper function and structure.  Minerals are needed for the proper composition of body fluids, the formation of blood and bone, and the maintenance of healthy nerve function and the regulation of muscle tone, including that of the muscles of the cardiovascular system.

Like vitamins, minerals function as coenzymes, enabling the body to perform its functions, including energy production, growth, and healing.

Because all enzyme activities involve minerals, minerals are essential for the proper utilization of vitamins and other nutrients.

Because some minerals are hard to absorb when taking in a pill form it is best to take them in liquid form.

When under stress the body is depleted in an hour of these vital minerals and B-Vitamins.  The tank is empty and it's time to refuel.

We all have stress and will never totally be rid of it until we're dead!

So deal with stress before it deals with you!

There are various types of stress that attack the body and still it goes back to what condition you're in!
    • There's Chemical Stress which  is caused by environmental Pollution or Toxic Chemicals.
    • There's Emotional Stress, Anger, Depression, Fear, Frustration, Sadness, Betrayal, Bereavement.
    • Mental Stress includes high responsibility, long hours, perfectionism and Anxiety.  ( I think I have that)
    • Nutritional Stress yes!  I said nutritional stress, it includes Nutrient Deficiency, Protein or Fat excess, Food Allergies.
    • Physical Stress includes, too much strenuous Exercise, Hard Labor and Birth, in other words putting out too much physically and not replacing those nutrients gobbled up in the process.
    • Some Examples of Traumatic Stress include Infection, Injury, Burns, Surgery and Extreme Temperatures.
    • Examples of Psycho-Spiritual Stress include relationship pressure, financial pressure, career pressure, issues of life goals, etc.
While stress is a psychological problem, it manifests physically. It starts with-
    Increased secretion of adrenaline.

Under stressful conditions Cortisol is released in large amounts which can lead to a host of health problems like we've already discussed.

We all go through stress at times -
    Most short term!

The long term is when it gets dangerous.

    What to do???

If you can change the cause of your stress, do it!  Get out of it, run, hard fast and continuously.

    1.    Consider your ways
    2.    Consider your diet
    3.    Ask for help - delegate
    4.    Pray - it changes things!
    5.    Supplement while you are on your way out:  It will help your body deal with        it!
    6.    Keep your body prepared for anything!
    7.    Remember the 3 essentials in your anti-stress movement.
    1. B-Complex
    2. Probiotics
    3. Minerals
