Finally Day 10!!!

I did it! My first fast has been a complete success!

Well my juice fast is finally coming to an end.

I used up the rest of yesterday's batch of veggie/fruit juice. Added psyllium husk powder this morning to keep things moving. I've been pretty regular this whole time, which means one BM every 2-3 days.

I forgot to mention that I tested my PH two days ago first thing in the morning. My saliva measured about 6 or 6.5 and my urine was exactly 7. I had been concerned about my acidity level before I started the fast, but found it to be at a normal level.

My acupuncturist said I need to stabilize my hormones and do it by balancing my yin and yang. I think I may have lowered progesterone levels due to 11 years of taking birth control pills. I stopped them over a year ago after learning how unhealthy they are for you. I don't want to be a hypochondriac thinking I have all the problems I read about for my holistic nutrition studies, but I also can't help but notice when something matches a symptom I've been having. The skin rash (hives?) on my back seemed it could be from unbalanced hormone levels. But now I'm pretty sure it also has something to do with sugar, which is not unrelated to hormone levels. It may be worth testing if I continue to have symptoms.

I stopped by the grocery store today to pick up some real food for tomorrow and stopped short of picking up a bar of dark chocolate. It's fully habitual now, but I'm ready to break the habit. I'm thinking maybe a piece of chocolate once a week could be ok (it used to be every day, at least one piece.) I'm already really good at just eating one piece of candy and being fully satisfied.

Tonight for dinner I ate this instant soup I bought at the Chinese market that has all kinds of healthy stuff in it like seeds, seaweed, and veggies. I figured it would be a good transition back to actual food. I'll probably eat oatmeal tomorrow for breakfast, and maybe a piece of fruit. Starting slow.

Since I didn't notice too many changes in my health during this fast, I wondered how it affects people like the author of one of my textbooks, Patrick Holford. If he practices what he preaches, he must be very healthy. Yet, he still does fasts (he wrote about a 10 day water fast on a vision quest in the desert.) I wonder what effects he notices.

All in all, I'm glad I did it and made it through ten days, if only to prove my will power. I'm very grateful to be moving on to regular food tomorrow. =)
