USO Entertainment Tours Continue to Bring Smiles
A medley of A-list celebrities made their rounds so far in 2007, entertaining more than 110,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, Iraq and other overseas locations. The USO is sending more entertainers overseas this holiday season, a time when our troops need a morale boost the most.
Date: 12/15/2007 4:55:08 PM ( 17 y ) ... viewed 2900 times The December tour schedule kicked off with country music singer/songwriter Kellie Pickler entertaining troops in Iraq and Kuwait. Later this month, the Sergeant Major of the Army, along with nine celebrity guests, will embark on the sixth consecutive “Hope and Freedom USO Tour” to visit troops in the Persian Gulf, followed by mixed martial arts favorites Tito Ortiz and Justin McCully. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will also touch down in Korea on their 65th USO tour.
In November, several entertainers gave of their time and talents to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with the troops. They include:
Singer/songwriter John Ondrasik performed for troops in Hawaii, Guam and Japan, and unveiled “For the Troops,” a superstar compilation album
Five GM drivers with the National Hot Rod Association toured Germany
Six PGA tour winners traveled to Kuwait and Iraq after visiting wounded service members at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital and National Naval Medical Center
Comics Scott Kennedy, Graham Elwood and Carlos Mencia took their no-holds-barred comedy to troops in Kuwait and Iraq
Actor Wilmer Valderrama, model Mayra Veronica and comedian Russell Peters toured with Joint Chiefs of Staff General James E. Cartwright and entertained troops in six countries in six days
Legendary promoter Don King had Thanksgiving dinner with troops in Germany and surprised U.S. forces in Iraq with a free viewing of his highly-anticipated “Ferocious” Fernando Vargas vs. Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga boxing event
Entertainers who recently participated in USO tours include Toby Keith, Trevor Romain, Chely Wright, Pitbull, O.A.R., Chuck Norris and Lewis Black, among other top celebrities.

Follow the Mobile USOs as They Travel the U.S.
For more than 66 years, the USO has served our troops in traditional fixed facilities as well as on the road. This year the USO is proud to take these programs and services to a higher level, with three new Mobile USOs. The Mobile USO program is designed to bring a “home away from home” directly to service members stationed in remote and isolated areas throughout the U.S. The Mobile USOs represent the USO’s next generation of commitment to our troops. These specially-equipped four-wheel drive vehicles feature lounges with televisions and home theater systems, gaming consoles, computer work stations with free Internet and e-mail access, cafés and libraries.
