Steroids and ethics in Pro sports, the double standards grow as morality and honesty slip away from our culture.
I do not see very much difference in professional sports and professional
Wrestling. Maybe one difference, the WWE admits that it is nothing more than entertainment and the ending is scripted.
What's that you say, Are you suggesting that professional sports is fixed?
In 1919, the Black Sox scandal rocked professional baseball, in the 1960's , some Green Bay Packers players were suspended for betting on pro sports. Professional sports took a stand on players who were trying to test the rules.
But, today in the era that our sports journalists , (if you can call them journalists) like to call the greatest of all time. It is a generation of overpaid, underachieving athletes who have popped , injected,
Steroids and other performance enhancement drugs, have made fools of themselves on the field to the delight of a sports audience that's wants to see, blood, gore and humiliation of the defeated team.
It is an era where some think that the NFL stands for the National Felons League. Where behind the scenes of stereotypes still exist and sexism and anti gay prejudices and stereotypes are alive and well.
As a cameramen for Pacific Coast League Baseball and the Arena Football League, I can tell you that pro sports is in a tailspin. I cannot repeat the comments I heard as a first base cameraman or how the director would have us scan the crows making anti gay comments or comparing hard working cheerleaders to street whores or topless club pole dancers. If one were to make the movie "the Longest Yard today. Burt Reynolds character would be able to recruit actual prisoners who played in the NFL.
The Round Rock Express is a Pacific Coast League Baseball Team and an affiliate of the Houston Astro's. On the headsets anti gay/lesbian remarks were often made by members of the video production crew.
This is the same Round Rock Express who has a minority owner named
Roger Clemens. A Witness in the George Mitchell Steroid case state that
Roger Clemens was injected steroids. As were many other professional baseball players.
I called Jay Miller, one of the owners of the Round Rock Express and asked MR Miller about the Allegations of Steroid abuse by Roger Clemens and how can the RR Express and pro baseball allow Roger Clemens to have ownership in a Pro Baseball team. He hung up on me.
The Round Rock Express will do the same thing as they did when I revealed anti gay comments by the Production crew and anti woman comment by the Director. Baseball, like all pro sports will try to kill the messengers. Blame someone else, or do whatever it takes to avoid admitting that there is a problem with drugs, steroids, bigotry in professional sports.
Incidence of Rape in Professional sports have also tarnished the game.
But what is more disturbing is the amount of sports fans and journalists who in my opinion would rather attack the woman who has made the complaint than the superstar who may have committed this atrocity.
I remember how upset Lakers fans and sportscasters were when a woman made allegations about Lakers Kobe Bryant. How many cheered when O.J. Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his wife and her friend.
On more than one occasion I presented treatments to the NFL, NBA, Pacific Coast League, Arena Football League, International Hockey League, proposals of Rape awareness Public Service Announcements. Professional sports and these geek sports radio personalities have done nothing to bring awareness to sexua| assault , date rape, or respect for diversity.
Sports radio would much rather have personalities like WFAN Don Imus insult good hard working athletes like the Rutgers woman's basketball team. Calling these hard working women "Nappy Headed Ho's" Not until there was an uproar by the public did they throw Don Imus under the Bus.
One just has to listen to these sports jocks for a short time to know that
What they offer as commentary of opinion is delusional. Most of these non athletes the pro sports broadcasting and sports talk shows are wide eyed little boys who are so happy that they get to talk to or sit with people they hold up as gods.
Can we totally blame the athletes or professional sports? I don't think so. Not when we have people in the House Of Representatives like Ted Kennedy who got away with driving his pregnant lover Mary Jo Kopechnie off a bridge in Chappaquiddick, while his pregnant wife sits alone at home.
Ted Kennedy leaves the scene of the accident and a pregnant Mary Jo Kopechnie to Drown. When we have an ex President like Bill Clinton who refuses to release his medical reports. A president whom many women accused of sexua| abuse, rape, sexua| assault, lewd acts against women,. Yet, in both these cases. The women are all made out to be less that moral women . While the guilty party is turned into a larger than life hero by the media and their political party and most in Government.
Television shows like Jerry Springer and others portray dysfunctional people with pathetic lives as entertaining characters. TV Shows like Desperate Housewives portray the American Family as immoral, greedy and filled with jealousy and revenge.
Newspapers in our country have long abandoned the truth in exchange for a political agenda. The newspapers portray our military heroes as evil and our dysfunctional athletes, entertainers as people who actually have a worthwhile opinion.
In Bozeman High School in Montana. A predominantly white upper middle class High School. There is a parking lot across from the school where teens buy and consume drugs in an area known as pot head corner. A high school student allegedly brought a gun to school.
High School Athletes are fawned over by the local news media. Some High School athletes are turned into larger than life figures.
Is it any surprise we have the society that we now have?
Donald Trump made a comment on a XM Radio show about a year ago where MR. Trump actually made fun of a 16 year old boy who reported the advances of a beautiful older women in her 30's. I do not remember the exact quote but, it was along the line of what self respecting young boy would turn down a beautiful older woman.
Since the moral breakdown of our nation, We now see school teachers having affairs with their teenage and pre teen students. The news media and TV eat up stories like this.
In Portland , Maine the school system spends less time on educating students and more time trying to introduce a program that will distribute birth control pills to eleven year old girls without the parents permission.
In another USA city, we find out that at a middle school that 11 year old girls are posing for nude photos and placing them on line. Boys are then distributing these photos over the web.
While many in the media and in Hollywood were attacking any politicians or religious leaders who were promoting family values.
Our nation became poisoned with immorality. The way some Muslim nations view our country is that we are a threat to their more simple way of life. One that does not expose women to the moral breakdown of the west. It is not G.W. Bush that is the enemy of the many in the Middle East. It is how Americans have allowed their society to become so infected with lies, deceit, drugs, alcohol, abortion , permissive parents and a morally corrupt public education system
While many on the left have tried to warn us that Global warming , war, is the enemy that will destroy our nation. The truth is that it is the lack of responsibility we take for our actions and the lack of morality and ethics that now exist in our nation.
The Media, Politicians, Pro Athletes, Educators, corporations, etc will not change until we as a nation demand they change. It is time to talk to the Hollywood couples who have been happily married for many years. It is time to talk to the pro athletes who say no to drugs and steroids and are making changes in their community for the good. It is time for our politicians and corporations to put the American Worker first.
Not the special interests that line their pockets. It is time for educators in our public schools to stop rewriting history. To stifle their political opinions and teach. It is time for parents to take responsibility for their children.
Maybe it is as simple as following the Ten Commandments, rather than trying to eliminate them from our view!
