Juice Fast - Day 5   18 y

First off, I feel fine. I haven’t mentioned it, but except for the first night, I have not slept through the night without getting up. It isn’t a bad thing - many times I have to pee, but others I just wake up. The interesting thing is that I’m not groggy, I wake up like I have been awake. I go right back to sleep too. It is kind of cool. I usually sleep through the night, but since the first night of the JF, I wake up two or three times. Well, it’s day 4 and things are going well. I really feel fine. The only thing I felt yesterday was that discomfort in my system. I tried the SWF yesterday and it did help that discomfort. I don’t feel that same need today, but I must admit, BM’s are on my mind. I’m not used to it, but it really isn’t that big of a deal. Overall, I’m far more comfortable now that I am doing just apple juice. I don’t know how it will impact me later on in this process, but the only word I can use is comfort. Pretty Easy So Far....
 
So I’m midway through Day 3, and there really isn’t any hunger issue at all. None. In fact, I would have never thought that the first three days would be this easy as far as hunger goes. I don’t even drink that much juice. One at lunch and one at dinner time. I don’t know how the next few days will go, but so far I feel pretty much the same as normal. I have to do a SWF tonight. I feel like I need a BM, but nothing. In fact, I got a blister on my walk last night, so I think I’ll skip the walk tonight and do the SWF instead. I really haven’t looked into this BM stuff enough. So far, so good....
 
I wish there was a lot of interesing things to report, but there just isn’t. No hunger, no anything. I will say that I did nap yesterday and went to bed early, but I did wake up feeling wonderful. It was a clear difference. I’m concerned about how much you have to love the juices for this to work. I don’t really like them very much. I also don’t really like my juicer very much. Breville something - it was $150. Easy to clean, but doesn’t seem to produce as much juice as my old Jack L Power Juicer did, and it is now already not sealing as well as it did when I bought it. Dreams of a new life.
 
Not much to talk about on day one regarding the fast. But I’ll say that I’m hungry, but I was always hungry pre fast and pre pre fast, so that never seems to change. More than anything else, being on the bottom and starting up is an interesting spot to be in. The only thing you have is hope and dreams. Let the mind game begin...
 
My thoughts today are about not just listening to my body, but being able to ”explain” to my body. I assume my body will in, some ways, reject this idea at first. The body doesn’t like sudden change. But I suspect it will be like that time we all started lifting weights on the first day TOO hard. On that day after the workout do you tell your body ”sorry, that won’t happen again” or do you tell it, ”I guess we’ll have to live with this because I want to lift weights and get stronger.” You later find out that not only does it never hurt like that again, most days your aren’t sore at ...   read more

Exercise During Fast?
 
I’ve been a distance runner in the past. For a couple years I ran three times a week and 7 miles every Sunday. However, I’ve decided that I’m saving any running or lifting for after the fast. I live in a major city and I have this excellent 6 mile walk that is essentially through the city to the river and back. The best part of the walk is that there is a whole foods at the two mile mark (to and from). Last night I brought a backpack and loaded up on some of my juicing fruits and veggies. I’m actually so ready for this I want to start now. I’m glad I’m starting Sunday for a lot of reason, but I’m feeling ready at this point. One thing is that Days 2,3,4,5 are work days. I don’t really want to have as much free time if these happen to be the worst days. I’m not concerned about giving in to the hunger, I’m pretty strong when I need to be. I’m more worried about thinking my body is in a health crisis of some kind and wanting to fix it. I’m so super impressed with Bearded One. I’m most encouraged by the fact that he’s using the same juice almost every day. I’ve also always been someone who could eat the same thing over and over again. Especially when I’m eating healthy. I could have the same breakfast, the same lunch and the same dinner over and over again. Or the same two or three of each. I think it is even more important for a juice fast to keep it going. So, I had a crazy weekend and one that had me thinking about what I’m doing. I won’t go into the details, but more the fact that it takes a huge commitment and one that has to overcome outside factors. (I didn’t overcome them this weekend, BTW). I’ve changed my start date by a few days for the following reasons: 1. I have plans for this Saturday and I don’t want to be going through them on Day 3. 2. Smells and temptation, and I haven't even started yet....
 
I’ve ”dieted” before, but something about this process has me noticing smells already. Perhaps it is the raw foods doing it. Anyway, I’m really picking up food smells in a huge way. I didn’t think anything like that would happen until fasting time. No biggie though, I just really need to pay attention to being well prepared. I noticed a touch of energy I haven’t had in a while. Blog getting real boring.....
 
....but I’m finding it a place to be accountable to. I’m settling in to the idea that we’re rolling now and any setback would be significant. I’ve cut my caloric intake WAY back and I have only eaten raw/organic. This is a small sample of what is ahead. It seems like anything can be done for 30-40 days, but can it? The easy part has been easy.
 
I certainly had a few moments today where I realized I’m past the point of no return. Tempting food smells, walking past food carts, even sitting here watching the World Series, I’m surrounded by old, bad habits. I can see already how many of those are ritual decisions. It is rather easy, though, once you throw that switch in your head, to put it all in the past. The easy part is over. I’ve set my plan. I have my juicer. I’m fully committed and believe in the process. Now, the hard part starts. I really have wanted to turn my back on a lifestyle that I am aware is wrong, but have given in to, for some reason. I want this to be the beginning of a new life for me. A new way to approach diet, exercise and overall health. I’ve decided that not making the entire 30 days will not be failure. Having never fasted before, I know that 30 is very optimistic. I believe that I will succeed. I just wanted to start with that. I’m not afraid of failing. Something about being an athlete that helps you with failure, no matter how much you hate to fail. Even though I’m not afraid of failure, I really think I’ll succeed. Some background, I’m a 36 year-old male. Single. This morning, I was 281 lbs. I’m 6’2”. It is by far the most I’ve ever weighed.
