Sweet music from a man who can only move his head

Sweet music from a man who can only move his head When violinist Eric Wan was paralyzed from the neck down at age 18, most expected it would be the end of his musical career. It took him two years to learn how to breathe correctly; playing violin seemed virtually impossible. Yet the virtual realm ended up giving Wan an unbelievable opportunity. Against all odds, he will perform live on Tuesday at Montreal’s Place des Arts with a virtual violin, performing the 6 minute piece Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D major. The concert will mark the debut of the Virtual Music Instrument (V ...   read more

OLD MINE WITH MARY LYDON http://curezone.com/blogs/fm.asp?i=1850445 GOOGING ARUNDO SUPERWEEDS BROUGHT UP THESE INCREDIBLE FINDS TODAY 12:15 pm November 23, 2011 An extraordinary number of concerned residents turned out to the September 11 meeting of the Topanga Creek Watershed Committee to voice their opposition to using herbicides to kill arundo donax, the giant reed plant, in Lower Topanga. They came bearing signs saying “No herbicides in Topanga” and brought their children with them to drive home the point that accumulating chemical pollutants in the envi ...   read more

Rhizome Barrier – For Running Bamboos For most applications, Bamboo Headquarters recommends a heavy, 40 mil, 24″ wide, high density, polyethylene barrier (HDPE), available in lengths up to 250 feet. To install, dig a narrow trench, 2″ shallower than the width of the barrier, around the perimeter of the area in which you want to contain the bamboo. Insert the barrier, making sure that two inches of the barrier remain above ground to prevent the rhizomes from jumping over. We recommend that you slant the top of the barrier outward so that the rhizomes bend and grow upwar ...   read more

How long does Roundup last in the soil? 1 Persistence in soil and water The agrochemical company Zeneca claims that its product, Touchdown, a herbicide containing glyphosate trimesium, is “rapidly inactivated and broken down in the soil”46. Monsanto has measured the half life of glyphosate (the time required for half the amount to biodegrade or dissipate) and determined it to vary between three and 141 days. In the field, long persistence of glyphosate has been observed in a number of studies. AMPA has been found to be even more persistent than glyphosate, with a half life in ...   read more

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/08/us-glyphosate-epa-idUSTRE7374WX20110408 Already more than 130 types of weeds have developed levels of herbicide resistance in more than 40 U.S. states, more resistant weeds than found in any other country. Experts estimate glyphosate-resistant weeds have infested close to 11 million acres (4.5 million hectares), threatening U.S. farmers’ yields. On March 18, a cross section of consumer and environmental groups filed another in a series of lawsuits against the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the agency’s approval of more Roundup Ready ...   read more

Roundup herbicide in Soil Effects

4Environmental fate When glyphosate is introduced into the environment a number of processes appear to determine its fate. The most important include: C the formation of complexes in water with ions such as Ca2+, Mg2+ C sorption to sediment or suspended particles C suspended particles in water and soil C uptake and metabolism by plants C biodegradation by micro-organisms. A range of bacterial strains can degrade glyphosate using the compound as a source of phosphorus, carbon, or nitrogen. The major breakdown product or metabolite of glyphosate is aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA). ...   read more

Roundup did not kill Arundo Donax in Topanga Canyon   13 y
Roundup did not kill Arundo Donax in Topanga Canyon: An alternative of cutting the arundo and laying plastic over its roots was more effective at eliminating the hardy tall bamboo-like grass. “The Roundup would knock it down, but then it would grow right back. I’ve got a problem dumping toxic stuff like that, especially when it doesn’t kill the alleged visitor.”

http://ovnblog.com/?p=4927 Referring to the use of similar herbicides to control the spread of arundo donax and other non-native species in Matilija Canyon, he said that spraying of arundo in Topanga Canyon had to be averted because it was ineffective. “They sprayed somewhere between 12 and 15 times and it didn’t kill the arundo,” Bernhoft said, noting that An alternative of cutting the arundo and laying plastic over its roots was more effective at eliminating the hardy tall bamboo-like grass. “The Roundup would knock it down, but then it would grow right back.
