The Politics of Food
October 12, 2010-WASHINGTON, D.C.— The intense debate generated by proposed food safety legislation, ongoing government opposition to raw milk, and raids by agents with guns drawn on private food clubs in California and Ohio, has vaulted the subject of food politics into the eye of consumers and policy makers. Should small farms be regulated? Are the USDA dietary guidelines improving health or causing disease? Do citizens have a right to the foods ... read more

In 1936, the Nazis organized a massive get-together in Nuremberg for malleable nincompoops and called the gathering Reichsparteitag der Ehre, or ”Rally of Honor.” Watching clips from Glenn Beck’s ”Restoring Honor Rally” held in Washington, D.C., in August, I was reminded of how, while growing up and flipping through channels, I would occasionally come across grainy footage of Adolf Hitler in Nuremberg and see the enthusiastic crowds applauding him and waving little fl ... read more

Roger Jahnke + Robert Slovak had Tea at Pac Symposium 2010,
Dianna Harbin, a delightful old friend, served them both.
Dianna was my guest Saturday at the Enchanted Garden Installation
at the Pacific Symposium. Magic definitely happened
in the ambiance of the wonderful Tea she served.

It is always inspiring to see Roger Jahnke.
Last year he planted his Seed Dream at the
Enchanted Garden Root Your Dream Altar.
This year he was gathering some CEU’s.
I led him to have some tea with
Dianna Harbin, my old ally.
I invited Dianna to serve tea on Saturday.
That was a big hit.
Both Roger Jahnke and Robert Slovak
connected in the atmosphere of the high quality
ambiance set by Dianna Harbin.
I am looking forward to posting some of those images
here.

Long ago, before corrupted by corporate interests, the US Senate was genuinely interested in promoting the public good. In 1936 they tabled a Document 264 which raised alarm at the massive and widespread threat to public health posed by food grown on mineral impoverished soils.
Excerpts of the original report as published in the Readers Digest, March 1936:

Educating Washington Food Basket:
Eden Organic Foods sent me two lovely food baskets.
Washington may be funded right now by
corporate lobbyists, but those who are behind
Real Food Safety and Real Medicine have the power.
I want to raise enough funds to send
the Senators food baskets from Eden Organic Foods
with a story that goes with this.

As your enchanted Gardener, this early morning, I was making grand rounds with Keep The Beet Media Star, the World’s First Talking Beet Plant, and a Tahitian squash grown out by a local organic farmer who is no longer farming because the climate of regulation now outlaws natural law for micro
farmers who fall between the cracks of codes.

In other cases, NBCLA found farmers selling produce labeled ”pesticide free,” even though lab tests showed presence of pesticides. Consumers usually pay higher prices at farmers markets, because they believe they’re buying produce that’s locally grown and often organic. But Agriculture Commissioners in several counties told NBCLA that cheating is rampant at farmers markets. It’s their job to police the markets and penalize cheaters, but they say because of a lack of manpower, ... read more
