Thanks for your response and concern Jane.
I "tested the waters" soon after we joined the church, because the first thing they did was have us take a Spiritual Inventory test. Having read much material showing such tests to be useless at best and having occult roots in reality, I was quite concerned and made my concerns known to the pastor, even loaning him one of the books I had read about it. He just brushed it all off and didn't want to hear it. He still preaches the gospel and does a lot of things right, but since we've been there, they have added dangerous programs such as 12-step, Alpha, Jabez, Promise Keepers, and now Purpose.
There is only one other person I know there who is having misgivings, and he's been there quite a while. I am hoping to bounce some things off of him first and see what he says concerning weighing the risk vs. benefit of questioning the status quo. I do not want to be divisive, but neither do I want to sit passively and watch them continue in error. To borrow a quote from the Wizard of Oz, "these things must be done dellllllicately".
I would never completely stop meeting with other believers, but the house church is much closer to the NT model. Who knows, if I start speaking up at my current church, they may make my decision easier ;-) Add This Message To Your CureZone Favorites!
