Hi everyone I just had to tell you about an amazing new element I have recently added to my diet that has really rocked my world - chia seeds. These things are AMAZING! Absolutely AMAZING! I love ‘em.
Chia seeds are an ancient food staple of the Aztecs and legend has it that Aztec messengers could run for 24 hours straight on nothing but chia seeds and water, and having eaten them I believe it! In fact the Aztecs valued this seed so highly that for a while it was used as legal tender to buy, sell, and settle debts.
Chia seeds are tiny black seeds often sold as sprouting seeds, but they don’t need to be sprouted to be edible. And yes, to answer your question these are the same seeds that give the chia pet its hair.
Chia seeds are high in protein, calcium, trace minerals, B vitamins, and they have the exact ratio of omega 3 fatty acids to omega 6 that the human body demands. Only the hemp seed has this same ratio. Flax does not.
Chia seeds have shown to be very affective at combating diabetes and helps overweight people lose weight.
But the one thing that comes up over and over again when talking about chia seeds is the sustained energy it gives those who eat them. It is not a rush of energy like caffeine or ginseng, but rather a strong and steady surge that very gradually levels off, with no crash at the end. Wonderful!
I HIGHLY recommend everyone try these out, especially if you feel low on energy or are trying to lose weight.
Here is an article about a man who wrote a whole book on chia, very informative. In my next blog I will tell you how I prepare and eat the chia seeds.

Thanks for reading.

I was just reading an article about Chia seeds and their remarkable properties and had intended to share it in my blog... I'll just refer people to your blog... But here's what I was reading: http://www.living-foods.com/articles/chia.html
Very interesting, indeedy.
I look forward to reading how you prepare and eat them. Don't leave out the details, such as how long you've been consuming them. How long before you noticed the energy increase and is it an increase as well as sustained energy? Details, dear, details! LOL
I still need to read and comment on your other essays. Especially the one on the environment. Very thought provoking! And your new water vortex essays look intriguing, but I've not read them yet. I'll print them out and read them at leisure in the morning over tea out back on my lanai. Mornings are nice these days.
Spring's around the corner where you are, too. Next month is the Spring Equinox! Hoooooray!

Not directly related to your post, but I've been opening up to these food "supplements" and picked up some flaxseed oil for the omega 3 content.
Chia seeds... Maybe that's next on the list!

flax oil is great. it has lots of omega fatty acids which help with more things than can be mentioned including reducing inflammatin and promoting brain health. there is some controversey about the best way to take it, some say the oil is best, others that buying the whole seed and grinding it yourself in a food processor or coffee grinder is best. flax goes rancid fast so if you buy the oil buy the kind that is refrigerated and consume it fairly shortly afterwards. owen has a great post about flax in the "ask cure zone" forum a few day ago, you might want to look that up.
