Blog: journal of my 30 day juice fast
today is march 19. im not sure of what this date means to many but for me it is a day filled with mixed emotions. it was three years ago today that i left my home country to come to america. that in itself has significance. but also today marks the first day of the iraq war. 3 years of war. quite unbelievable.....but today of all days i went to a public pool to swim and have fun with my kids. and i met a man who was there with his kids. a nice man who chatted to me about kids stuff. after some idle chat i discovered he is an american soldier. he has been to iraq three times already and about to leave his family again to go back in july. i could tell he was counting down the days he has left at home. he mentioned to me how glad he was that australians where there fighting against the iraquies. i am proud to be australian for many reasons but the war is not one of them. i bit my tongue. how could i say anything about my hope for peace and my disdain for war. he is doing it living it while i am a hopeful dreamer that believes there is a better way. i wish for peace and every fiber in me is agaist any war or violence. but here was a man who walked the walk. i have nothing but respect for him. i wish him all the best as i do to all the other people who are fighting this fight....on both sides because i truly believe that i could have met a man on a different conitinet that had the same feeligns of leavign his family to go to fight in a war he belived in. my thougths tonight are with all those who are battling fighting and striving to do what they beleive is right. but mostly my thougths are for peace and understandign and of my idealism. my world where we get to meet people from all walks of life and understand and learn to accept.
im not sure this is the right forum or even the right blog to be posting such a message. but im puttign this out there and do with it as you please. agree disagree be outraged or be emotionally effected. but we are all human and we all have very basic needs and dreams. that does not change regardless of the place you were born or the beliefs you have. juicing seems so insignificant when i think of today. a day to remember and a day to reflect. however you feel about the war.

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, That we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the Survival and success of liberty."
"Let the world go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans, born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage, and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today, at home and around the world!"
John F. Kennedy
