  • Gut Focussed Hypnotherapy - An assessment   by  dsquat     11 y     10,597       3 Messages Shown       Blog: CURED of PARASITES: Blastocystis Hominis & Dientamoeba Fragi
For four months I attended sessions with a psychologist trained in the techniques of Gut Focussed Hypnotherapy.

*** Please be aware that the opinions expressed below are my opinions based on my own experience of this treatment, and that each person is different and may experience different outcomes. ***

Gut focussed Hypnotherapy is a special form of hypnosis that is specifically designed to treat functional gut disorders like IBS.

I found the sessions beneficial because as a previously well person who somehow contracted two types of intestinal parasites (causing no end of pain and suffering) back at the beginning of 2011, and after repeated treatment failures from stronger and stronger antibiotic protocols, I had definitely got to a fairly hopeless point.

Once the parasites were finally eradicated using the last-line salvage treatment at the Centre for Digestive Diseases in Sydney, it did take some months for my battered intestines to start to work better.

The parasites left me with some food intolerances and I have to be a bit careful with my diet.

The Gut Focussed Hypnotherapy certainly helped in terms of teaching me relaxation techniques. The psychologist certainly was brilliant at helping me work through some other issues in my life.

Was the Hypnotherapy ultimately worth it? It certainly was not cheap.

I would have to say that while learning the relaxation and meditative techniques were great and highly useful, I don't really feel they made an enormous impact on my visceral hypersensitivity or food intolerance issues. What it certainly did do, was make me better able to cope with stressful situations, and to keep a more positive perspective on health-related matters generally.

I believe that this therapy would be most beneficial and would have the furthest-reaching positive effects for those people who suffer predominantly anxiety-related irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). That is, those who get stressed and this impacts their bowel in terms of producing diarrhea or constipation, bloating and the like.

For people who have IBS caused by an infective agent, or post-infective IBS, where this had impacted the functionality of their digestion and bowel, then I believe, as in my case, the treatment is ultimately not as effective.

I personally got most benefit from the psychology, as my condition was post-infective IBS. It has ultimately taken about a year to regain proper bowel function and as they say, "rude good health"!
