I went to the Summer Solstice Live H2O event in Long Beach; Your Enchanted Gardener was there and he gave me these great biodegradable food containers made from sugar cane. I covered them with tissue paper adhered with Elmer's glue diluted with water and applied with a small paint brush. A bit of glitter glue adds some sparkle to the "jewelry box". The seeds and feathers in the trays were found on nature walks; sea shells or other found objects can also be used. Undiluted Elmer's glue can be used to adhere items to the trays; allow for overnight drying time to make sure the items "stick".
This would make a fun children's project or, for adults, a fun "inner child" project! I prefer to use biodegradable food containers; these are from EarthSmart. You can also re-use (I strongly recommend against buying new styrofoam containers!) styrofoam food containers that have been previously used for food packaging. Wash 'em, dry 'em, and reuse them, rather than throwing them away in the trash where they will NOT degrade.
Have fun!
