It amazes me of the propaganda on the news about Muslims. I have to sit down and eat my lunch and I am disgusted with CNN. 8 billion Muslims not celebrating Valentine's Day and CNN is running a piece about Iran's youth running around with boyfriends and buying Valentine's gifts. Indicating that the morals of the youth are evil and they have lost their faith.
Why not promote Muslims abstaining from this practice that is against our religion. It is no wonder that people mistrust Muslims as they see more and propaganda against the Religion.
Sure as in any religion there are those who choose not to follow the path but there are 90 percent who do follow what we have been taught.
I wish there were more pieces on the news depicting the best of the Muslims, not the worse.

Hello Sarah,
I have not seen the CNN piece, so I can't comment on it first hand. If I saw a news clip showing kids in Iran buying Valentine gifts, I probably wouldn't really have thought anything much about it, except maybe a brief "Aw, thats sweet", I certainly would not have thought them evil or lacking in morals. I would imagine most of the Western world would have thought similar. We (a general "we") LIKE to see things being westernized, different cultures freak us out, especially Islamic culture. (again I am making a general statement and for sure this view is not shared by everyone, myself included) Though you would have rather have seen a piece about Muslims abstaining from the holiday, sadly I'm sure that would have provoked the opposite reaction you would desire, people would have thought "Ooo, those horrible Muslims, not even letting their children celebrate Valentines day!" They were probably trying to show a "kinder, gentler" more WESTERN Muslim to the world. *sigh*
I will be the first to admit that there is a great deal I dislike about Islamic culture, mostly centered aroud women's rights, but I will also admit that there is a great deal I do not understand about it as well. Did CNN drop the ball on educating us on a facet of the culture, no doubt, but sadly in todays world it seems a lot of people are just not ready, or willing, to see with different eyes.
Thank you for your viewpoint, as a Muslim, on the news piece, very interesting to see the view of a persons who's culture was being shown and the reaction to what we would have saw as a "good thing"

Not sure what you mean about women's rights. I am treated better than I ever was in America. The women are cherished people and rightly so. Here is a woman gets on the bus, men stand up for her. IN America, it is like don't bother me, man. lol.
If you read my piece further down the page you might understand a little bit more about our culture.
What I am saying and I don't want to sound rude in anyway is that CNN is depicting Muslims doing something against our religion. Now CNN is famous for this. As the piece goes on and they tell about the great sin of doing this and put us in a bad light.
It would of been better to show Muslims practicing abstintion. But I am glad you are here so we can chat about this and you can see the differences. We are a strict religion and only thru knowledge can anyone know the differences.

About the bus thing, I have seen men not give up their seat for me to sit. Why should they? They have been working too all day and I am not some frail flower that might wilt if the men folk do not come to my aid. I think that is one difference, I am a woman, but I do not NEED men to make me an entire person.
Christianity and Judiasim does that too, as so my beef is really against religions that put women in the backseat.
I probably should state that I am Pagan. I KNOW first hand the ignorance and hate against anyting not considered "mainstream" views.
How do you feel about Sharia laws now going to be the way of life in Pakistan? I find it frightning. Women will be set back so far. Am I corect in that the Sharia does not allow women to be educated, drive cars, own a business or even work, leave the house unattended by a male. Rape is considered a dishonor and the victim is the bad person, subject to being stoned to death for bringing dishonor to her family?

What you are kidding me, no did not know all of that but not sure really. We don't have sharia here. Hey did you see my post on sharia law, maybe the answers are there. Here is what I know. Adultery, stoned to death, thief, cut off the hand, courts judged by the way of the quran requiring 4 witness. Rape is not stoned to death. Yes, it does bring dishonor to family. women may not be able to drive as in Saudia, I don't drive cause it is too dang dangerous. I take the bus for real cheap. 30 cents.
Remember Laura, a lot of things are propaganda, so this is to please the country of Swat only. Why so the jihadist won't attack and keep the US happy. Well you know I just don't know enough to comment. I would be wrong to state otherwise. Really I have to read the piece to know more.
Education is a must for women, I hope that is not true. Why are you a pagan. Does that mean Athiest?
Muslims don't judge people either way. I don't care what religion anyone is. It is not my business. Our business is to love everyone and spread the message. We are not mothers and cannot make anyone adhere to our beliefs. It is a hope that people will look at Islam in a different light. But what can I do. No religion is perfect but I was baptist for 30 years, na did not like that one, I was 4 square church before coming Muslim, I lived with a group of Mormons when I was 18, Girls. So I try to keep an open mind. My best friend in America is Budist. So I am open to discussing this subject but will try to learn more and get back with you. I took the pieces from Al jazera as they are the most accurate. I wouldn' trust CNN with a rock.

Pagan does not meant atheist. It is still somewhat a bad word in todays society, but I wear the title proudly. I actually consider myself a non practicing agnostic Pagan, go figue that one out! Lol. Paginisim is a vauge referance at best, like many religions it is not one thing, like Christianity, Judiasim and Islam, there are many off shoots but the base remains the same. I believe there is a force, a power at work here beyond my understanding. It is of a dual nature, sort of like electricity. It is neither good or bad, but is what we make of it. You can use electricity to kill someone, or can use it to save a life, the nature of it remains the same. It is natue based belief, the power of the life force of the planet, the sun and the moon, all life on this spining globe and the life on spining globes we have not seen yet.
Back to Sharia law, I have been doing some research on it, is it not in line with the taliban way? I sure hope I am wrong, but from what I have read it seems like that is the way?
I have to ask, why does being raped dishonor the family, and the person who this horible crime was comitted against?
Rape is violence, not sex, it is in my mind one of the most horrible things you can do to a person AGAINST THEIR WILL. Then the victim of this is subject to hate, for nothing they did?

Not sure Laura, this is to do with culture not Islam and I might suggest you do some internet searching. I know about sunnah, the way of the prophet and the Quran so I can only tell you for sure.
As to what is in a person's mind or behavior depends on the area. Such as Saudia, women can't drive. IN Africa in some places they mutilate the women. Now this is not Islam but culture to keep the women chaste. This is extremely forbidden Islam. There are 70 sects of Islam and the only true Islam is Suni so when you are doing research keep that in mind.
God bless you on your search for the true knowledge.
