Blog: The Diary of a WannaBe Healthy(ish) 18-Year-Old
I was gonna OP this morning with EVCO, but my brother and sister started snapping at me saying since its expensive, I shouldn't use it. But I like the feel f EVCO for oil pulling, even though it was my first time. Anyway, I took their advice and instead used EVOO. The taste was gross, but not worse than EVCO, which I find to be truly disgusting at first. But I must admit, I prefer OPing with EVCO than EVOO since with the EVCO, I'm able to keep it less liquidfied longer, therefore less time swishing with a outhful of saliva.
So this morning I OPed with EVOO. I didn't like it one bit. I'm guessin that since its already in liquid form, it took less time to get choked up with my saliva. We get our EVCO in a solid form, so I have to chew it, and chomp it before it gets to a liquid state. I liked that about EVCO. Also, the salt water rinse is pretty good once one gets used to the strenght of the salt.
While I was showering, I was thinking about ways to make my external my healthier and, um green? I don't wash my hair with shampoo, (using the no-poo method right now ) and haven't straightened it in close to a year, which is pretty good. Slacked off though when I HAD to wash with shampoo AND blow dried it, which wasn't cool AT ALL. But if I didn't do that, then the hairdresser would have KILLED MY HAIR!! Gahhh!! Anyway, I started off with OPing, since it was the easiest thing that I could do with my parents approval. Later on, I want to try maybe a flush or too, but I'm not too sure just yet. The thing I'm worried about during a flush is the taste of stuff. Thats it.
So, this is just me reporting back. So far, NOTHING I have eaten is healthy, just munching on the remanants of this mornings party, swiss rolls, ritz crakers, juice, coffee cake etc. etc. Really not good. Now I know why people were starting their fasts and what not on the 2nd... tee hee, and I thought they were dump and not strong enough. Oh well. I have about 4 hours to go till my next OP, thats around 7pm, then I'll do another round b4 I go to bed at 11pm.
Ciao 4 Now!

How's the hair thing working out for you?
No extra oily or extra dry scalp a a result?
I know some people just go NUTS when their hair hasn't been washed with shampoo for a while.
Anywho, there are lots of great natural, homemade shampoo recipes on here. Use the search engine, or check the Beauty Tips forum.
Is your hair looking better now after that? Not straightening or washing?
When I use regular shampoo, I like to add a few drops of oil of oregano into the shampoo and the conditioner and since I usually rub coconut oil on my face, I'll usually run a little through my hair as well.

Hi herb-gal,
Thanks for the comment at my blog! It's my very first! Being no-poo is not bad, since the results are AWESOME IMHO! My scalp is normal as a result, meaning not too oily, not too dry. It also affected my curl pattern alot, making my hair curlier, and hence thinker.
I do was my hair, but in the no-poo method, without shampoo. It takes a long time to wash(close to 1 hour) since I'm using baking soda as shampoo, and its really hard to cover all my hair with it, and do my scalp too. The baking soda is hard to deal with I find esp. with my curly hair.
Thanks for pointing out the Beauty Tips forum. I didn't know about the homemade shampoos, but I'm definatly going to check that out! I currently have a thread going their (i think) about what people use to keep their face fresh. You should check it out. For the new year, I really wanted to make some life changes before I head back to school in September so, I thought this would be a good way to start

Well thanks, and keep it up!
I might try the baking soda thing for myself but I already have long hair that is super thick.
How often do you do that?
I'm definitely going to have to try something new because I've been getting really bad dandruff lately and it's driving me nuts because when my scalp isn't all dried out and flaky, it gets super oily and dirty and either way it itches and I can't stand it.
Seems like your parents have a lot of say in what you "can" and "cannot" do.
It's excellent that you do what you can though. Hopefully you'll just have such fantastic results with everything that they'll just give you the reigns. How is the OP working out for you?

I usually wash my hair every 2 weeks in the no-poo method. But I guess since it's not harsh one could do it every day. After washing my hair with te baking soda, I use an ACV rinse. The reason I like the no-poo method is because it doesn't leave my hair "squeky clean". Hair become squecky clean because the inredients in the shampoo have just striped of the out layer of the hair strand.
Regarding OP, its working out pretty great, I guess. I was a little bit skeptical over whether I should continue doing it or not, since I wasn't seeing any major results. Just alot of nose sniffing and stuff. But I have noticed that my breathe stays fresher longer, even after eating really fragrant foods. I guess thats and advantage...
