Re: Maolar Root grown into sinus - surgery impending - help!
Hi Karlin,
"As I was about to get an upper molar [#17 canadian] pulled, and they called and said I need to go see the Maxillio-facial surgeon because the x-ray shows that the root has grown up into the sinus - a definate extraction complication! [or my sinus could cave in or become infected, etc.]We don't want a hole there - or will it heal just fine? Anyone??"
I had an upper tooth that the X-ray indicated it could have been puncturing my sinuses. At the time I was having major sinus problems. 5 or 6 sinus infections a year. The X-ray wasn't conclusive because there was a lot of bone and cartlidge in the area, but based on years of not knowing why I was getting these infections I opted to have it removed.
It was a long twisting root and I think the dentist had to cut the gum open to remove it. I ask him if it had punctured the sinus and he said that it had, but I don't recall what was done to close the hole in the sinus. I know he cleaned the socket out before he closed it up, and made me take some
Antibiotics .
This was the beginning of having all my
root canals removed and all the
Amalgam fillings replaced. This was a tough decision as none of them were bothering me. I know I made the right decision because my health has improved tremendously. I haven't had a sinus infection since.
As far as an anesthetic, I didn't get any. He just gave me a local shot.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I can tell you that you should get the dental work done ASAP. It will Make a difference.
