I can agree that there are some people; both male and female who attempt to control situations in other people's lives...  But there are probability more males attempting to control especially younger or lonely females; than the other way around...

The problem usually occurs when the controlled person does not think for him or her self!! DUH!!  

  There is a very thin line between honest straight forward advice or assistance and some form of control or manipulation...  In attempting to help others; I too; have walked this line and have learned to always give advice with the need of the person being helped  in mind over any of my own personal desires...  The key is to have the person being helped; learn to seek the truth in their life and make as many decisions  as possible; free from any manipulation!!  HUH!! 

Help is a two way street which requires some form of trust as in any relationship or other interpersonal contact... The helper must be willing to extend the correct and timely amount of assistance... The person being helped must accept the assistance; with some form of trust!!  But there is always some point or degree of trust that must be established...  It is here that the contact is always critical and most dangerous... How and why do we learn to trust others??  

Have heard the story of a father telling his young son jump off some high place and he would catch him; this happened a couple of times then later when the boy jumped again:  the father did not catch him and said that is when: " You should learn not to trust anyone!"  Is this the normal or expected reaction??  

Absolutely not!! If we all operated under this form of trust and help then we would all be lost... Even though this type of demented thought and action is present in the world; we should not ever even consider this as a proper way to act!! 

 Life is filled with trust in some degree or other...  This is faith and personal belief...  Who, what, where and when we trust is based mostly on our circumstances and conditioning...  We learn to trust and accept help through out our life...  Most of the trust is well placed and we have satisfactory results... It is on this bases we help and accept help from others... 

While life is based on trust and assistance there are elements of deceit in the society...  This is where self defense comes into play...  While many today {including most of the governments in the world}  do not advocate self defense; it is a built in mechnism... 

 BTW: All animals and most plants have some form of self defense...   We all function in this thin Vail of faith and trust in life... 

It is a shame that there are many; who do not respect the personal freedom of others and tend to cause hurt or destruction; for their own personal gain...  That is the unfortunate part of life!!  This line of though is based on selfishness... 

Be advised that you must be ready willing and able to help those you come in contact with on your pathway of life...  Trust is built and shared by our cooperation and friendship...
