5 Steps To Help Your Dog Learn Faster

Training a puppy can be frustrating, but sticking with it is essential if you want a dog that listens to you.

Training a puppy can be frustrating, but sticking with it is essential if you want a dog that listens to you. Dogs are eager to please their owners, so take comfort in knowing your pooch isn't resisting obeying you; it just may not fully understand what you're asking of it for a while, which is why you shouldn't give up. Eventually, your pup will become a loyal companion. Here are five things you can do to help your dog learn a little bit faster.

1. Mix Things Up

Much like humans, dogs get bored when they do the same things repeatedly. They begin to lose focus and look for distractions to ease the task's monotony. You may also get tired of training if you don't mix up the circumstances.

Consider switching up the room you're teaching your dog a trick in or working with your pup outside rather than staying indoors. Take it to a dog park for training and reward it with a game of fetch. This location change will help both of you stick to the task at hand.

2. Keep Your Pal Active

Make sure you take your pup on walks or runs to get the exercise it needs. If you have a fenced-in yard, you can let it run around while you're gardening or getting caught up on house maintenance, such as using the step ladder to clean the spouting. Your pup will wear itself out while playing and indulging in nature's scents.

A dog that's active and mentally stimulated is much less likely to ease its boredom by doing negative things, such as chewing on your favorite shoes. By allowing your pup to exercise, you're essentially teaching it not to engage in destructive behaviors.

3. Stay Consistent

Most people have difficulty staying consistent when training their dogs. The key is to correct unfavorable behaviors and praise good conduct every time. Owners fall short by forgetting to reinforce these behaviors. To stay consistent, you need to pay attention to your pooch constantly.

If you have a spouse or kids, make sure you discuss training. Everyone needs to be dedicated and do things the same way. If one person lets the pooch eat table scraps, but everyone else tells it "no," your pup is sure to be confused.

4. Allow Your Dog To Calm Down

Before interacting with or taking your pup anywhere, let it calm down. Upon your arrival home from work, for example, your buddy will undoubtedly be glad to see you, jumping up to show its excitement. As much as you want to cuddle your dog immediately, try to hold off until it relaxes; otherwise, you'll be reinforcing its poor behavior.

Also, realize that your dog may be so excited or anxious it could have trouble comprehending what you're telling it to do. When it's in this state of mind, you shouldn't attempt training, as it may think you're rewarding its overly stimulated behavior.

5. Sleep Without Your Pup

If you're like most people, you want to cuddle your dog at night in the bed with you, especially if it's just a tiny puppy. Fortunately, you may be able to when your dog is trained, but it's not a good idea at first.

Your pup first needs to learn crate training and potty training. Sleeping in a crate teaches your dog to wait until you take it outside to go to the bathroom since dogs don't like being near their urine or feces. If you start with your bed, your pup can relieve itself anywhere in the room and make its way back to the comfort of your mattress, which will lead to a delay in potty training.

Training your new pup should be at the top of your priority list. By utilizing these tips, you can make the process go much smoother.
