If you need the extra push to really clean up your diet, keep reading for several convincing reasons it’s worth it.

A healthy diet has an abundance of wellness benefits. When many people think of healthy diets, however, expensive health food stores, dietary restrictions and complicated meal plans often come to mind. A nourishing diet doesn’t have to involve pricey, elaborate menus. It’s easy to start where you are and give your daily food intake a nutritional upgrade.

If you need the extra push to really clean up your diet, keep reading for several convincing reasons it’s worth it.

1. Weight Stability

Whether you’re trying to reach a certain pant size or you’d like to get in shape for your upcoming Caribbean cruise, a healthy diet can help you maintain a stable weight. Fad diets and restrictive calorie meal plans do result in weight loss much of the time, but these methods aren’t sustainable for long-term weight stability. A diet filled with whole grains, lean proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, plenty of fiber and healthy fats is often naturally lower in calories, so your body stays satiated without packing on the pounds.

2. Heart Health

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for adults in America. Trans fats are found in many overly processed foods, and they’re measurably bad for your heart. However, healthy diets are nearly free from harmful trans fats and contain fats that are good for your cardiovascular health. Nourishing diets feature omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats, which have both been associated with lower blood pressure, reduced cholesterol and a lowered risk of heart disease.

3. Lowered Risk of Type II Diabetes

Two of the biggest risk factors for type II diabetes, obesity and unhealthy eating habits, can be diminished or avoided entirely with the adoption of a more nutrient-dense diet. Simply just adding more nutritious foods to your plate each day, as well as cutting back on sugars and sodium, can help you to lose weight, lower your cholesterol, regulate your blood sugar levels and place less overall stress on your system.

4. Extended Grocery Budget

Life gets busy pretty quickly, which can make it hard to plan healthy meals and carve time in your schedule to cook for yourself and your family three times per day. As well, busy people are more often found reaching for unhealthy convenience foods or ordering take out on a regular basis. Healthy meals cooked at home are often a fraction of the price of a restaurant alternative, and it also reduces the need for expensive supplements to fill in nutritional gaps left by an unhealthy diet.

5. Reduced Risk of Cancer

Several types of cancer are more likely to develop with habits like increased alcohol consumption, a lack of exercise, frequent red meat consumption and continual indulgence in processed foods. There are many suspected causes of cancer, but a healthy diet is associated with a decreased risk of development at any age.

6. Better Digestion

Diets with an emphasis on healthy, plant-based food sources are typically higher in fiber. A diet high in fiber is good for your digestive system, and aids in promoting bowel regularity and functionality. Fiber helps you to feel full without an excess of calories or large portion sizes, but it also helps to regulate your blood sugar and lower your cholesterol, too, which help your digestive system to operate smoothly.

7. Increased Energy

If you’ve ever felt weighed down after a cheat meal, your body was trying to tell you something. Many unhealthy foods have a detrimental impact on your energy levels because it’s a lot harder for your body to digest some ingredients than others. A balanced diet, on the other hand, is more likely to have energy-boosting b vitamins and complex carbohydrates to provide your body with healthy, sustained energy throughout the day.

8. Look and Feel Better

The nutrients that come from healthy foods have a positive impact on your hair, skin, nails, teeth, bones, and your waistline, but there are unseen benefits, too. Regular intake of beneficial nutrients make it easier to fall and stay asleep, maintain a positive mood, focus on your daily tasks and just feel good about the food choices you’re making.
