The difficult part is knowing what you can do to actually eat well and exercise, and how to maintain this. The other difficult part is knowing other things that you can do that will also improve your health. The following are some ways to make general lifestyle changes that you can apply to eating healthier and exercising more. They can also be applied to other lifestyle changes that can make you healthier, including sleeping more and decreasing your stress.
1. Find support from others
If you want to improve your health, consider joining health and wellness groups online or in person. There are many benefits to being part of a community, even virtually, on health and wellness. It can increase your motivation, because if you see someone in your group getting up early to exercise five days a week, you may be more likely to do so as well. You can also learn more from others in your community. These other people may share healthy recipes or tips for maintaining their diet when they go on vacation. You can make new friends in these groups and know that they have similar goals as you. They can also decrease your stress, as being part of a social group allows you to interact with others and have more fun.
There are many community health and wellness groups that can provide support and education. They can also help you focus on ways to improve your health by providing supplements or meal plans. Looking up what is thrive or other health programs can help you kickstart your health plans.
2. Set goals for yourself
You can set goals for yourself, which can help you be healthier. These goals may be to follow a specific diet five days a week or for one month straight. They can also be to exercise regularly and complete a sprint triathlon at the end of the summer. No matter what your goals are, they can help you improve your health. Goals are beneficial because they can help you start and maintain new behaviors, like eating more fruits and vegetables, and help you focus on just one or a few things that can have huge benefits.
When you set a goal for yourself, you want it to be specific and challenging, but not too challenging. You want it to be something that you are fairly certain you can achieve. For example, if you want to eat healthier, it may be easier to achieve the goal that you will follow a paleo diet for 30 days versus losing 20 pounds in 30 days. Losing 20 pounds in 30 days is not necessarily the most realistic or healthiest goal, but following a specific diet is clear and more realistic to achieve. If you want to complete a three-mile road race, it is more achievable to set a goal that you will run four days a week versus setting a goal that you will run the road race in under 20 minutes.
3. Write down your thoughts
Writing in a journal on a regular basis can improve your health in a variety of ways. Your journal can be used to document your health and fitness goals, such as the food you ate or the workouts you completed. You may reflect on how you felt after you did them. You can also journal about other thoughts you are having throughout your days. There are many benefits to journaling, which include managing anxiety, coping with depression, and helping you recognize any ongoing problems or symptoms that you are dealing with on a regular basis. Journaling allows you to be more attuned to your thoughts and feelings, which can help you reflect on any things that are going on in your life, both positively and negatively. Spending just a few minutes every day or a few days a week can help you be healthier.
