Pay Attention to Your Digestive Health

Most of your immune system’s activity is regulated by your gut. Digestive troubles or irregularity can really interfere with your immune system’s ability to work properly. A buildup of unhealthy materials on the lining of your digestive tract can slow down your digestive system and impede the function of the fighter cells that combat effectively.

In order to support your digestive system, avoid eating an excessive amount of highly processed foods. They’re tough on your intestines and colon, and they take much longer for your body to digest. Your body will have to spend more energy on digesting food, and it may diminish the amount of available energy that your body can give to other important systems such as your digestive and nervous system.

You should also consider that highly processed foods don’t have any nutritional content that aids immunity or your body’s other vital systems. The best foods to eat for digestive health are high in fiber and rich in protein. You should also consider adding probiotics to your daily routine so as to maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria. Friendly bacteria help to offset the presence of unhealthy bacteria that can damage your intestinal lining and compromise digestive function.

 

Include Essential Nutrients in Your Diet

There are several key vitamins that aid immunity. Rather than relying wholly on vitamin pills to get the supplements that you need, it’s a good idea to try to get at least some of them that are easy for your body to digest and deliver to the cells that need them. At a minimum, you should give yourself 8-9 hours to have the best possible chance of overpowering a virus.

 

Stay Hydrated

A lot of people think the connection between drinking fluids and fighting sickness doesn’t matter unless you’re already sick. In fact, staying hydrated is a crucial part of supporting your immune system every day. Over seventy percent of your body is water, so all of your cells need an adequate amount of hydration to function properly.

Hydration also affects your body’s electrolytes that regulate how your body’s energy. Drinking a lot of water helps to assure that your body applies the necessary amount of energy to your body’s immune activity.

Anything you can do to avoid getting sick is definitely worth the effort. Moreover, a lot of the things that you do to care for your immune system will benefit your overall health.
