Day 17

Fruit Feast!

Date:   8/6/2016 7:21:02 AM   ( 8 y ) ... viewed 513 times

Wow, it feels like 2 days since my last entry for some reason - I think my brain can be a bit scant what with increasing age and the low cals of a fast :o! Today I got up, rather lat - having stayed up rather late as well -- and went to our local feeder town to shop as I had run out of pretty much everything I needed to continue my fast...

so much exotic fruit on sale :) I bought a golden pineapple, a punnet of strawberries, a whole small watermelon (slightly bigger than a basketball), small papaya which is pretty ripe, a bag of 3 custard apples which was on sale bagged up because they are ready to be used, a big bag of naval oranges, a bag of little avacados which are not ripe yet that was really cheap as well... it must have been the day for me at the shops cuz usually I wouldnt have access to that much cheap produce... I also got a little punnet of kiwi fruit, a couple big pears, a little bag of green apples -- and some veg, I already had a big bag of great kale, so I also got a big bunch of celery, a zucchini, and a big fennel bulb --

the custard apples need to be used first, so I searched the internet to see what people usually did when juicing them etc, and made the most amazing drink - one custard apple, half a pear, half a green apple thru the juicer (scooped out the pulp of the custard apple and took all the seeds out because they're really toxic) juiced all that and added 1.5 cups of milk which I had dissolved just a 1/2 tsp of palm sugar and a 1/2 tsp of vanilla paste into - that blended all together, added some water that I rinsed the juicer out with and wow - what an amazing drink - so nice... then I had read that the skin of the fruit was also edible, sweet and nutritious - so I made a second big litre of juice with the skin, 2 kiwis (skins on), the other half of the apple and pear I had left and some kale, water, vanilla and 1/2 tsp of palm sugar - it tastes just like soursop - more tart than the custard apple, still with that exotic flavor and I poured it all into a big glass jar from some cherry juice I'd had last week and put that in the fridge for tomorrow... yum yum... custard apple is one of my favorite fruits of all time and something I only ever rarely get - still 2 of them to go, so I'll probably make the milky fruit drink again tomorrow and the next day as they won't last long, they're already ripe.

other than that - I had a tea this morning, and drank half a litre of the apple, beet, tumeric lemonade I made a couple days ago - finishing that off, very nice cleansing drink.

I have made my first broth - it was going to be a veg broth but the shops had a roast chicken for 4$ so I bought that and put the carcass and some of the dark meat in the pot with all the veg - I used my giant preserving pot not quite half full, and chopped up about 3/4 of a bulb of fennel, 2 carrots, a small onion, 4 cloves of garlic, half a bunch of celery, the chicken bones and a little meat, salt. peppercorns, 3 small green peppers that were going off and needed using - just cut out the bad bits, a couple cups of cauliflower that was in much the same state - got all the older stuff out of my fridge lol - threw it all in, a bit of kale and a bit of spinach, some thyme, bay leaves, a bit of 5 spice and a couple star aniseed, 4 big celery stalks chopped up - well its almost done and tastes great, first broth I've made in years - going to strain all that and enjoy a cup or two each evening for the next little while, the next one I make will be a beef bone broth - that's going to be a much longer process, this one only took 4 hours - let it really simmer for ages... I also had a little of the chicken meat, not much - maybe a 1/3 cup of chicken meat - I wrapped up the rest and put it in the fridge, I might eat a little of that with the soup or just by itself -- I've been having something small to eat each day, for the last week almost - some days maybe not - but most days, I don't want to say I'm slowly weaning off the fast as I'm not really winding it up just yet, I guess its more of a transition to having some small amount of food most days...
I did buy some cottage cheese for when I do wean onto a bit more solids, but I think that will be in another week... just going to keep going as I have been this week - really enjoying it!

Getting late now, have a little office work to wrap up, then I'll probably have another juice or try the broth and a hot choc with a show or two and head to bed hopefully around midnight... tomorrow is a bit of an outing, we're going to a waterfall and dharma center - so I'll take those juices I've already got ready to go in the fridge - some of the oj yogurt drink and the kiwi custard apple skin drink :) yum yum... it really put a smile on my face, can you tell how much I'm loving the variety of fruit I bought today haha... it had been getting a little boring now I feel amazed with choice and exotic things..

Enjoying this fast & all the good its doing me
