Canada's P.M. Harper Destroys Science Books, and Libraries.
PM Harper orders science libraries closed - books destroyed
Date: 1/19/2014 9:27:49 AM ( 10 y ) ... viewed 12754 times P.M. Harper [Canada] has allowed, encouraged, and directed the destruction of a vast body of knowledge about Canada's rivers, lakes, and wetlands - covering 14% of our great nation - to be destroyed.
He has ordered that seven out of nine Fisheries and Oceans ["DFO "] regional Science Libraries are to be closed. The government website states that that materials from those libraries will be amalgamated into two remaining libraries, but it appears now that all of those valuable materials will be DESTROYED.
What will be lost
There was the HISTORICAL data, gathered by scientists over 100 years ago, kept in their hand-bound journals, that told the story of what Canada's natural habitats were like before there was ANY human interference!! Except for a very few books that were salvaged by interested individuals, those records, that story, is NOW LOST FOREVER and will never be known again.
Each of the seven regional libraries to be closed had thousands upon thousands of items in their holdings including unique valuable material of local regional significance documenting research into aquatic systems, fish stocks and fisheries carried out in the 1800s and early 1900s, as well as more recent grey literature such as laboratory reports, consultants reports, research vessel survey reports, reports of commissions of enquiries into fisheries etc.
One such library, called "The Freshwater Institute library", held collections dating back 100 years, on the quality and state of freshwater systems in central Canada, the Great Lakes and the Arctic.
The Evidence
There is ample evidence, testimony from concerned scientists associated with the libraries, that none of the materials that were removed will be saved.
Their evidence can be read from this link > thetyee.ca/News/2013/12/23/Canadian-Science-Libraries/
No attempt was made to organise the materials as they were being moved.
Local staff in the regions were given a brief opportunity to scavenge through the piles of books, journals and documents not wanted by the remaining two DFO Science libraries. Books and other library material already on loan to researches were never recalled, indicating a chaotic and haphazard process.
No explanations have been provided with regard to how the limited space in the remaining two DFO Science libraries will accommodate material from the regions deemed (by whom?) too important to destroy. One can only assume that the amount of material not being dumped is relatively small.
The official DFO statements have indicated that an "alternate service delivery system" is to be put in place to meet the library needs of the regions and that operations will not be affected by the library closures. To date this alternate service delivery system is not in place and no information has been provided on what form it will take.
Context:
100 years ago, there were parts of Canada was the VERY LAST places on the entire planet that had undisturbed wilderness. It will never be the same, and now the records of that wilderness are lost too.
Earlier, in 2013, PM Harper ordered all government scientists to refrain from speaking publically - they must first get approval from the PMO. [Prime Minister's Office].
Harper is anti-science. Period.
What kind of Prime Minister does this? What is he up to?
He is a Crime Minister, Canada's Crime Minister Harper.
I wonder why he doesn't want any record kept of the way the world was 100 years ago?
Pure speculation now, but maybe he does not want any record of the natural world, or what is left of the natural world, to survive for some reason? - is there a pending catastrophe? Will the world change in a drastic way soon?
