Honor Thy Father--2014 Enchanted Garden Campaign
My dad, who is called Rabbi Solomon Goldman at the Garden of Palms Assisted Living Facility in Los Angeles taught me to love all peoples. This is expressed in some of my appreciation for the "COEXIST" bumper sticker that was produced by Dr Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps In 2014, I would like to fulfill a promise to plant more Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company and KAMUT ancient wheat outside the lunchroom, and also do a poetry reading from "The Moral BC ! &11 of quotes from the Emanuel Bronner (1908-1997) book that proclaims we are All One-God- Faith.
We grew up in East Los Angeles. Part of my story is told in my book "Rekindling of Faith" sitting on a bookshelf here. My dad, at 96, is widely known at the Eden Cemetery for his Prayer work for the departed. He is loved by many.
My dad promised he would water the plants.
I have had a lifelong struggle to find my place in modern Judaism. Part of this stems from my early childhood experiences where our home was the center of the Jewish Community in Boyle Heights. My mother was an extraordinary baker and the folks from the nearby Raskin's Bakery came to our home for your goodies. When she died when I was 12 years old this marked me. Making peace with my dad has also been a lifelong journey. In the days when I inaugurated the Closing Ceremonies at the Whole Life Expos in the 80's Los Angeles, I would bring my dad on stage where he would pray alongside the Native American Elders. That was where I met and was befriended by Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach Legacy Trust.
Here is a poem from "Rekindling of Faith:"
GENERATIONS OF FOREFATHERS
Fathers and sons are alike.
This is why they fight so much.
They are invested in each other,
their dreams, their successes tied.
My father, did he ever claim a day
for himself? Did he ever stop from work
or service a minute before he dropped into sleep?
Did he ever know the meaning of the idea, enjoy life?
Inside me, the forgotten child weeps,
then rages as I overwork,
then demands penance in cookies,
stomping his little feet and his daily bagel.
I tricked him, gave him a poem to write
and he was happy.
New Messages! New lessons here as I accept
this father and I who both feel most comfortable
before God wearing hats.
A new body is bent here on straightening out
generations of forefathers.

WHERE WILL I HAVE MY POETRY READING (s)>
One place that inspires me is the Silent Movie on Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles. It was here where I first met Charlie Chaplin on the screen. This little Silent Movie gave me great solace when I was about 13. My mother died when I was 12 years old. I would go there on Friday nights. It cost 5 cents to get in. Dorothy was at the window.

Nadine of Nadine's Favorite Ingredients wasn't very happy with the condiments at Cantor's Deli on Fairfax Ave when we visited. New to Non GMO foods, she was disappointed that I told her most of these had GMOs but were unlabeled. This is one Jewish Renewal Project that I can sink my teeth around in 2014. I would like to bring my own Eden Food Condiments. Life is so very precious these days and years. There is a possibility we may have to exit soon, if the Fukushima By-Products come to So Cal as some say could happen by 2017.
Today, December 14, 2014, I am calling to mind a friend. I heard he committed suicide last August. He was an inventor. He tried very hard to make it but felt disillusioned how hard he was trying and how many times he hit a wall.
I will write more about that good man before long.
