Going Further...
Long Fast, Essenes, Going Further, Coming Off

I'm 18 days into my post christmas fast now, and it feels like I'm only just getting started :) I did a couple 21 day fasts before Christmas late 2011, and they were great, but what I've noticed is that for permanent weight loss I really need to do the longer 40 days or something. Christmas was an indulgent season, enjoyed throughly - so I put about all of the weight I'd lost back on over two months and many social occasions - It was summer here in Australia and I can't say I regret a moment ;)
I did notice my body changed nonetheless - I just looked better, my shape changed... But anyway, putting weight back on is always frustrating, so now it's the last warm part of the year, I needed a good detox and I wanted to use the warm weather for a big big fast to really get off another 10 lbs at least and keep them off, which probably means 40 to 60 days and a very slow coming back off the fast.
So here I am, trucking through it - doing great. The fasting is not hard at all, it's just got easier and easier through the years of practice - I really enjoy it now, and it seems the minute I just begin I'm easily well on my way - I always start with a couple weening off food days, and these have just got more and more effortless. What I notice now is how big a role mind plays - when I make the decision to go for longer, 18 days seems like a beginning, whereas I think if I'd decided to do 21 days that would seem completely different. It's as easy as what I envision (within reason) it would seem - and this is the perfect time for me to push further on a long fast before the cold weather and now that everyone's back to work and the summer parties are over.
So I'm back to the gym, deep into the fast though it seems like early days - there's nothing now to disrupt me until I go away on retreat early April - so I really have the best space and weather for this now. Yesterday I had so much energy I cleaned the house from top to bottom and it took me all day and well into the evening - it's so good, guess a reflection of what's going on inside - It's been not horrible, but too many little piles of things had stacked up over the Dec/Jan and I have not had the house properly organized since - So I'm feeling very satisfied, andwhat I normally find is that when I get to this point in being organized, it makes the space in my world for me to start taking on new things - getting back to my morning practice and yoga and more focused on my music - because the place is so in order, it just welcomes me to do the things that feed my soul the most without distraction. Yay :) So Happy bout that.
Feeling very good in general - I've got a few ideas about how to progress, like maybe getting to 40 days and seeing if I want to keep going another 20 and start adding fresh juices and finish off that way - coming off the fast I'm thinking after a bit of oj and broths going onto a further kitchari period - basically an aruvedic brown rice with veg recipe that balances the entire system - great stuff - so doing this for some time with maybe broth dinners and just really taking my time about it. During that phase really thinking about what I'll live on after I totally come off the fasting and trying to make it more simple - wholefoods and not big serves and just a simple natural wholesome kind of diet - really shifting my habits more permanently. I love food and all sorts of flavors and gourmet dishes - and I doubt I'll ever give that up, but it's about the pattern of eating as a whole, just what you do 80,90 % of the time I guess - brown rice is really appealing to me as a sort of staple food with veggies.
So - might log in from time to time and tell you all how I'm going - getting so experienced now I've been toying with the idea as advertising my services as a fasting coach for others new to it. Might be a nice little side business. The other really cool thing I did last week was start reading Essene literature on fasting and the spiritual connection in facilitates - Wonderful stuff, and has made a big difference to my perspective - Highly Recommended!
