Human nature is the raw material for the Christian character. The spirit of Christ working in the human spirit is to elevate the aim, ennoble the motives, and intensify the affections. This process is never complete here on earth. The Christian is always in the process of being making!
Christianity bases all human relations on love, {God is Love} which is the equalizing and social building impulse of humans... The Golden Rule makes the swift instincts of our self - preservation a rule by which we are taught to divide what ever we have with our neighbor! Therefore anything incompatible with this true form of love, would stand indicted! God's way to greatness is through preeminent social service!
Self- development is desirable because it helps us to serve better... Then so far as the influence of the Christian spirit goes, it alone tends to bow the egoism of the individual into the service of the common good of the community... It bids mankind to live his/her life for the Kingdom of God, not self!
Yet in this social calling of love and concern, Christianity encounters the natural selfishness of the human nature! But this is not a hostile confrontation; it is based on the instinct of self-preservation, without which we humans would not survive the natural elements of this world!
The Christian young people who are raised with a steady modified sense of proper duty and solidarity with family, and the small social group which they move within come to develop a well- trained frank egoism... Then as they move into adolescence they encounter the powerful instinct of self- devotion to the society!
The young adult now contends with the world view of right and wrong vs The God given Christian training of early youth! If the world was also trained in the Christian principles, then the fit would be easy and there would be minimum conflict... Instead the Christian young adult is emerged into the present world system of the industrialized age... Which largely tends to counteract the Christian teaching and training!
They come to learn the world of competition and commerence... This is the Rule of Trade which is based on { the principle of More} greed, or self betterment and increase... Which simply means people learn to buy cheap and sell high... This is the drive of the world of trade, where they learn to get as much as you can while giving as little to the other fellow as possible! This rule makes even the most honest competitor trade dangerous if allowed to go unchecked - to say nothing of the vast volume or more or less dishonest trade deals in the world; most all of which are antagonistic to the Christian principles!
This is where principled finicial mentors in the real world of trade must be tempered with the Christian teachings of love and concern for others! They need to find and have a heart of a teacher, one who care for the betterment of the individual...
*** To have increase is part of God's plan for mankind, it is just how we manage this increase that will determine your life! Jesus spoke on the method and need for increase, yet how it should be held to the principle of love your neighbor, not rob him!
It is not about you; it is about how you treat your fellow human being!!
