Obama Health Care Reform Speach
Sept 9th 2009
The speach just ended, and I post this an hour later:
There is no doubt in my mind after hearing that speech - you Americans have a real gem there in President Obama. For the first time in my life I am a bit jealous about not being an American. Wow, he is something!!
President Obama laid a golden egg tonight with that health care speech. People like me, from Canada or any nation with full coverage for everybody, just cannot believe some of those stories he told tonight about how sick people get turfed out on their asses, even while in the middle of treatments. That has to end in order be proud of your nation, doesn't it?
A person who gets hurt, or sick, and does not get proper medical attention will cost their community, and their nation for the rest of their life. Fix them up now and they will contribute for the rest of their lives. Besides, all through human history people allways have cared for the ill and injured; it is unimaginable how America has made a cut-throat business of people's medical misfortunes!! Uggg!!
I truly hope you come to see how things improve for everyone in America when everyone is insured, and these reforms are made.
The unattractive part of what I saw tonight was how the opponents - Republicans, I am sure - sat there frowning, they could not applaud one thing even while Obama made such good points about how this plan will HELP the economy, and LOWER the cost of health care [which is the Right's big concern, isn't it?]. They could not be even a little bit supportive even as Obama chastised the insurance companies for what would be criminal acts in ANY other nation, that they just sat there and refused to applaud. They were just holding their positions like a stone. Oh ya, right, when Obama made concessions about medical malpractice laws they cheered. I guess "conservative" means "to resist change" no matter what.
Oh, here is the rebuttal, live on TV now: "it is going to increase the cost of health care". It is not true - America's health care is saddled with excessive corporate profit taking, and the pharmaceutical corporations down there are getting huge amounts of government money - SO STOP THAT and you will SAVE money. [I thought Obama laid that out pretty clearly].
And the rebuttal continues with "it is the fault of sick people to be sick" - WOW!! that is so, uh, like racism; Lookit - Canadians are generally HEALTHIER than Americans [sorry, I had to point that out], so it just isn't true that if people are insured they will be careless with their health. Giving health care when it is needed KEEPS people healthier.
Humans are all frail at some point in life, and those times should not ruin you and your family for the rest of your life.
I don't see how anyone could argue with those points Obama made tonight. Lock tight. Be proud America. Support this President [the last three were kinda stinkers, sorry to say, no offense meant, my friends].
Sleep well, you have a good leader there now.
