"Current Conditions or Just A Bad Dream?"

Ron Paul's speech that the YouTube host says: "... is one of the greatest truths out of the mouth of a man who really knows what is going on not only in our country but the world."
Date: 7/13/2009 5:25:49 AM ( 15 y ) ... viewed 2090 times "A government out of control, unrestrained by the Constitution, the Rule of Law or morality."[2]
"We have forgotten what made America great, good and prosperous. We need to quickly refresh our memories and once again reinvigorate our love, understanding and confidence in liberty."
Jefferson is attributed to having said: "The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first."[3]
The founding fathers gave us the "chains" to restrain government but they added a caveat. That this restraint upon government also required "a moral people".[4]
We need to to understand that the Constitution itself says it is "the supreme law of the land". That declaration places the greatest emphasis on the necessity for all of us to understand this Law as it stands next to the Declaration of Independence as the most fundamental restraint on governmnent in the support of our freedom!
And it appears that we need to recover or at least reconsider what it is to be considered a "moral people" (at least for the sake of our restraining the government).
Blessings on all who are striving to have what Ron Paul calls the "excellence and virtue" that I believe are part of what made "America great, good and prosperous".

In the full enjoyment of the gifts of Heaven and the fruits of superior industry, economy, and virtue, every man is equally entitled to protection by law; but when the laws undertake to add to these natural and just advantages artificial distinctions, to grant titles, gratuities, and exclusive privileges, to make the rich richer and the potent more powerful, the humble members of society-the farmers, mechanics, and laborers-who have neither the time nor the means of securing like favors to themselves, have a right to complain of the injustice of their Government. There are no necessary evils in government. Its evils exist only in its abuses. If it would confine itself to equal protection, and, as Heaven does its rains, shower its favors alike on the high and the low, the rich and the poor, it would be an unqualified blessing. In the act before me there seems to be a wide and unnecessary departure from these just principles.
Nor is our Government to be maintained or our Union preserved by invasions of the rights and powers of the several States. In thus attempting to make our General Government strong we make it weak. Its true strength consists in leaving individuals and States as much as possible to themselves-in making itself felt, not in its power, but in its beneficence; not in its control, but in its protection; not in binding the States more closely to the center, but leaving each to move unobstructed in its proper orbit."[1] - Andrew Jackson.
