September 2008 - meltdowns, clowns, and frowns

Mortgage meltdown thoughts

It has been awhile since I have had internet access, other than a few minutes here and there at the public library or a neighbors house... so I apologise for not posting here lately. And even now, it is just a temporary access at a computer where a friend is on holidays...

WHY don't I have internet access? CLOWNS!! - the Blue Screen of Death, for one thing. No disc, mail service was ripping open every letter I got for awhile, and stopped my packages too, which is why the disc never arrived after three tries.

No kidding!! And I still don't really know why. I think it has something to do with the books I have been getting through the "Inter-Library" loan system, especially one called "The Politics of Heroin" by Alfred W. McCoy about CIA Complicity in the Global Drug Trade. Or not, I am paranoid.

But the economy collapsing is probably more interesting right now.
Big FROWNS -or not?.
Have you asked yourself how your life would be different if the USA dollar, as currency, was discarded? Your house would still be standing, if you have one. If you rent, you would not have to move out, not likely. Food would still grow, and water would still flow downhill, and probably through your taps. Fuel might be a problem, but in short order we would be seeing electric cars and alternative fuels being produced by your nighborhood handy-guys. Entire villages would get their heads together and find a way to make the essentials available.

I am not saying that an economic collapse would make out lives BETTER, but full tilt catastrophe is not a certainty either.

One of the positives might be that "all people are once again equal". Wouldn't that be a good thing? We might have government for the people again, with nobody holding huge bags of carrots for elected officials to chase after.

We might start to do things in a sensible way again, not in ways that make people rich. For too long, many people have actually believe that "market forces" really make things work in the best way possible. What we saw in the past months of the "sub-prime mortgage crisis" was that GREED turned out to be more than the best possible incentive to run an economy with!!

"Regulation is communism"? "Government interferance in the markets is socialism"? Those were the mantras of big business and badass bankers who were trying to keep sanity and fairness out of their way as they did business. Their own GREED did them in.

I have allways been a believer in having rules for things that are ESSENTIAL TO LIFE. Not just a GREED incentive, that has not resulted in lower prices anywhere so far. There should not be a profit motive in health care, education, prisons, water and food. Etc, etc. Those things are the stuff of life and we all need them and we all use them so why not have government help all people get them instead of having to pay for them? And why not add in phones, cable tv, home heating, and a minimum of transportation? FREE, all FREE, provided by government. Like in Venezuela. Even FOOD is free... after all, everyone needs some, so government will help them get some. It works good down there, but in the USA there would be no profits so nope - you gotta pay, dudes!!

More about how GREED works, I have to go home now, be back later tonight!!
