3-D "Fall Birds" by mayah(c)2015. Mixed media on canvas board. 8" x 10"
A family member is an artist who uses acrylic paints; she had an extra set of paints and I traded with her to get them. I hadn't used acrylics since childhood--won't tell you how many years ago that was! Used the acrylics to paint the background for "Fall Birds". The canvas board itself is made from 100% recycled materials, distributed by Michael's Art Mart. The background forest photo is reused from a magazine; the birds are reused from a greeting card received for Thanksgiving, and the bark was found on the ground in my neighborhood; reused cardboard, non-VOC glues and acrylic glaze; thrift store frame.
You can see from the second photo that the birds "pop out" away from the canvas background to give the piece a 3-D appearance. If you look closely, you can see in the framed photo that the male bird has been moved downwards, in order to fit into the frame better.
Eco MaG by mayah "Fall Leaves Three" 2015 2" X 2"
"Fall Birds" was actually the last one of the art pieces on this post to be finished as it took several different stages to complete. I get impatient waiting for paint and glue to dry, so usually work on several other art pieces at the same time. The above Eco MaG is made from a very small canvas board coated with left-over acrylic paint, a reused scrap of gold foil, a twig, and a tissue paper leaf from an old MaG that was taken apart and done over (see "Tea Time" Eco MaG http://www.curezone.org/blogs/fm.asp?i=2291226 )
Eco Art Cards 5" X 5.5"
After finishing painting the Eco MaG, wiped the left over acrylic paint on the paint brush onto a paper towel--it highlighted the circular pattern of the towel. Liked it so much I used the towel as background for the two greeting cards above. The design in the middle of the first one is left over paint on unbleached waxed paper, coated with non-VOC acrylic glaze and sprinkled with slivers of reused candy bar wrapper.
The design on the second card is a reused junk mail advertisement for home remodeling; it's a spiral staircase--I cut out the photo to enhance the curvature--looks like it's going into infinity! Both cards have orange outline stitching using the sewing machine; white card stock paper.
