The craziest thing about CPS is that agency responses are so lame!
For instance, my husband's sister is married to a horribly overt abuser. This man is definitely somatic NPD and has (at the very least) emotionally, sexually, verbally, physically, and spiritually abused in front of us, her parents, other family members, and acquaintances. She is a stay-at-home mother, not by choice, but by his instruction: he knows where she is at all times. And, he causes her to believe that she is "allowed" to remain out of the work-force, go shopping, and do nothing in exchange for tolerating his demands, commands, and abuse. She does this willingly. She is also addicted to prescription medications (morphine, at last report) and routinely "doctor shops" in order to get Valium, Xanax, and morphine. As an aside: YES, doctors in my area are prescribing MORPHINE to people that ASK FOR IT! Getting to the CPS point, their youngest daughter was suspended from school for bringing in 2 graphic, hard-core p 0 r n o g r a p h i c magazines. The child was 11 at the time. Now, the father (and, mother by default) excused the incident by saying, "She must have laid her school books down on the magazines and picked them up by accident." Nobody questioned this explanation.
So, I contacted CPS because I had witnessed rampant abuse, offered dates, times, details of the abuse, and my name IN THE HOPE that the intervention would FORCE family counseling and parental accountability. Nothing happened - the parents denied all of the incidents and the CPS case-worker moved on to the next case.
The kids are silent victims, to be sure, until they grow into adults. Once they're adults, the cycle continues to eat up human beings by grooming them for full-bore victimhood or to be a better abuser than their predecessors. In the end, everyone pays for child abuse in one form or another.
