So SoulSurvivor, answer me this one thing, you say in your post you were terrified about your ex having guns and whatnot. I'm not undermining that. I am sorry for you that you went through that. I'm glad you are safe now. But didn't you notice warning signs before you got yourself hooked up with this individual?

Why is it that women notice all kinds of stop and warning signs while dating but continue on to marry the person, and have kids? Then he gets worse, and you want to call someone like myself ignorant because I get exasperated about women not taking control early on in their lives. They rush into marriage and commonlaw-hood just because they don't want to be alone and don't feel like a woman unless they always have a man there 24/7.

You made the choice to get hooked up with that person. Why didn't you wait until you could have found someone more mentally stable? I don't believe this guy was all the gentlemen when you dating and then turn into Jekyll and Hyde after you married. I think he was the Jekyll and Hide from almost the start.
What I do believe is women choose simply to ignore warning signs because they can't live without a man, any man in their lives.
