Just so men and women out there realize that there still is ignorance with regard to the intricate and insidious dynamics of domestic violence and abuse, please check out the following quote:

"This is what makes me mad, because some of them play with the system, then they want you to stick your neck out for them getting in the middle of domestic spats and they aren't even trying to help themselves."

Those of us who have Survived domestic violence and abuse know the referenced (and, all-to-common) practice for what it is - terror. I remember, very well, my ex holding a loaded Ruger .357 to HIS head and threatened to shoot me AND himself if I called the cops. My children witnessed this whole sordid mess (among others), and I had to make a judgement call on whether or not this madman would actually go through with his threats. He also maintained a literal arsenal - 2 semi-automatic assault rifles, 2 semi-automatic pistols (9mm & .22), one .357 revolver, and a 1-shot .22 hunting rifle (antique). You're dammed SKIPPY I was scared and chose NOT to call the police!

Most men and women who are being abused try calling the police, try filing a complaint, and try to protect themselves, but they fail because they have absolutely no self-esteem, self-worth, independence, or anything positive to focus upon. The emotional factor at the core of domestic violence and abuse cannot be overstated, or over exaggerated. Not only had I nearly succumbed to the emotional destruction, but I had no friends (unless HE screened and approved them), no family support (I had been painted as a complete lunatic), and no finances. I had been a stay-at-home-mom because I believed that I was doing the Right Thing for my kids - it was a control ploy by my batterer so that I would never be able to find independence! Unless a person has Survived domestic violence and abuse, they are not qualified to make broad, sweeping statements such as the one, above.
