Theoretically, mebendazole use is restricted to those parasites that are only in the GI tract with no risk of reproduction/dissemination (wishful thinking). More important, sometimes, than knowing what you are treating, is knowing what ELSE may be cohabitating inside of you. For instance, a little girl presenting with sypmtoms of intestinal parasites with abdominal distress etc, and visually ID as hookworms given mebendazole and succumbed to an undiagnosed case of strongyloidiasis. This means she actually DIED folks and that it was preventable!!
