I found a boxer/american bulldog mix on the road. She was too weak to walk so I picker her up and put her in my car. I took her directly to the vet and found out she was invested with parasites and heartworms. We treated the parasites but she need to gain weight before we did anything. They now tell me that they really didn't think she was going to survive. She was below a 1 in skinniness... basically skin and bones (if I could figure out how to include a picture I would) Well after 2 weeks she gained 20 pounds and is a healthy size now. Most of her hair had fallen out so I gave her a combo of oils and now she has a shinny thick coat. It was so quick. She must have been tied up and starved b/c she wouldn't have been that skinny living on the street. She also has scares all over her from fighting or being used for bait. With all that she's the sweetest dog!

I scheduled spaying but did xrays to see how extreme the heartworms are before putting her through the spaying since this will stress her heart. Well it's severe. They advised she wait on the spaying. To make matter worse she was in heat when I got her so i'm not sure if she's pregnant also :( The vet can't tell yet.

Anyway, I have been putting the money together to do the heartworm which I was quoted $700. I've already spent about $500. I'm trying to find a lower cost option. I have written about 10 rescue groups for help but everyone is full it seems.

While at the health food store I asked about Heartworm medicine. They gave me a Vibropathic (Hanna's Kroeger Dog Heartworm Caina Philaria). They say to give it to her for 2 weeks and it should go away. This was $9.95. Is this too good to be true? I don't want to risk her life by waiting 2 weeks. It seems strange. Anyone have any experience with this?

She also seems to have a cold and her nose is secreting green mucus which after talking to the vet she says I need an antibotic. She's also coughing up white mucus and eyes draining. Like I said she's a mess but a lot better then when I got her :)

Any suggestions would be appreciated. BTW I did do a search of the forum and read other messages regarding heartworm treatment but still wanted to post regarding my particular situation. Thanks!
