I don't understand how being your true self could be narcissistic, or why someone would want to fit into a stereotype.... that said I'm still young, there's a lot I don't understand. I always thought that I'd be able to be my own true self once ego and narcissism fell away, and I stopped trying to fit into any stereotype. It's a long road though.
