Hi there,
I am a Christian and I do go to church regularly, so I hope to get support for this through my friends. Some diets are somewhat taboo and though their motives might be genuine, it's difficult to stick to something when people criticize it.
I have called the bookstore to hold the book for me and will pick it up after work. I have been eating only raw veggies/fruits for a couple of days now to prepare myself for a 10 day fast. Perhaps this book will provide me with a lifestyle to come to after the fast to get my health on track.
#1 I am overweight by about 50 pounds. I was an athlete through HS and College, then was in the Army for 6 years. But when I got out about 3 years ago, I steadily gained about 15 pounds a year. Most of it comes from the change in lifestyle (I become more and more sedentary as my children get older and as I have moved up the food chain at work, I am more and more chained to my desk.
#2 I have a disease called achalasia. It's a narrowing and paralysis of the esohogus and the sphincter muscle that goes to my stomach. It makes it work to swallow and sometimes it hurts. When I don't eat, the sphincter muscle responds by making gasping motions to retrieve food it thinks is in my esophogus and instead takes air which leaves me with dibilitating gas... I have been hospitalized on a dilotin drip for the pain before. This also aids in the weight gain because I have to keep something constantly in my stomach, and healthier foods cause more gas.. which hurts.
#3 I have monster stress. I have two children and the father of the younger one decided after getting married to file for custody. He won. So now my 5 year old lives 400 miles away. I'm in the appeal process without an attorney and for the past year, I've been living solely to take care of my other child and get my daughter home. The effects of this stress are too numerous to mention.
So, here I am searching for a better healthy way of eating and getting back in the gym for a better way of moving. I know that the fast and the change to all natrual diet will be a struggle for me, but I'm hoping that it will aid if not cure my digestive problems... oh yeah, my gallbladder was removed when I was 24.
So... the supplements. If the diet is biblically based and is what is God's plan and laws for my body, why am I supposed to take supplements, those weren't around either in biblical times? And why is the diet not enough? What is in that Primal one that everyone raves about in here.
Any questions and comments appreciated.
