Apparently you now have the updated versions of both programs so now they have caught everything the previous versions haven't.

Don't blame Pest Patrol. Ad-Aware and Spybot S+D were having "bad hair days" in July and August. They didn't advertise the changes in their programs.

To be safe, uninstall both programs COMPLETELY and reinstall the latest versions.

Spybot:

Quoting Brent:

"There are new updates for 1.3, and you'll see them in your update window within spybot now.

As far as 1.2, Unfortunately, because patrick has put soo much time into the program, it would be rediculously hard for the team to release the updates for both 1.2 and 1.3. The way spybotSD handles the updates in 1.3 vs 1.2 was completely redone, revamped, and ... is working (I've got the update mirror myself, so i'm one to really notice the improvements.)

So I guess to put it in plain english.. you won't get updates for 1.2. In order to stay current with definiations, please install Spybots S&D 1.3"

Ad-Aware:

Ad-Aware came out with a new version on 8/9/4. Then a few days later released a new build because a flaw has been found in LavaSoft's Ad-Aware SE version 1.02. They were urging everyone to upgrade to v1.03. Only paid versions were notified.

New definition file: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=41538

Ad-Aware SE may not function correctly if old versions are not removed prior to installing a new version or an upgrade. However, Ad-Aware 6 SE has an uninstaller. To ensure proper installation and operation of Ad-Aware SE please make sure "Yes, uninstall previous version of Ad-Aware. (Recommended)" is selected and click "Next" to continue.

a. Ad-Aware Plug-in Uninstall pop-up -- You might get a grey pop-up asking if you want to uninstall the plug-ins for the previous version of Ad-Aware. Click "Yes" to remove the old plug-ins and continue the uninstall process.

b. Select Uninstall method -- Select "Automatic" and click "Next".

c. Perform Uninstall -- Click finish to complete uninstalling your old version of Ad-Aware.

d. Uninstall Successful! -- Click "Next" to continue with the installation of Ad-Aware SE

If you use SpyBot or another security program that puts URL's to nasty sites in your Hosts file, Ad-Aware SE will include them for deletion because it doesn't recognize the good ones from the bad.

The old Ad-Aware 6 will only be supported for 90 days so you will eventually need to upgrade to Ad-Aware SE

Hope this clarifies the updates mystery and I haven't confused anyone too much!
