Not UVB (dermatological phototherapy), but UV-C (254 nm UV wavelength) which is apparently NOT yet approved for human treatment by the FDA in the USA (nor is it approved for such in Canada), but IS approved and used successfully for such treatment in the UK.

Related is the shorter wavelength FAR UVC (220 nm), which is more likely to get approved here in the US than UVC 254 nm because of high profile research and publicity through media like TED touting its safety advantages. However FAR won't penetrate below the skin surface (which does little good for parasitic infections, because most of the infected areas are just under the surface).

In contrast, UVC 254 nm DOES penetrate the surface of human skin (and biofilms) "just enough" to affect infections and has shown no ill effects in causing cancer. It's range is very short with 1" the recommended distance from skin (at 4 watts power) in overseas treatments.

FAR is deemed safe enough for even short term errant occular exposure, and therefore is much more likely to get approved here.

What we really need is both UVC treatments - especially though, the more effective UVC 254, with wavelengths in the "sweetspot" of effectiveness - infection-killing ability but safe with even basic precaution (eye protection and applied only on infected areas).

Again, UVC 254 nm is 95-100% effective in killing and/or sterilizing all biological infections (including parasites in adult, larvae, and ova stages).

Research is showing effectiveness in UVC 254nm treating viral infections as well.

The irony is sun tanning lights and natural sun are UVB and UVA wavelengths (290-400nm) and UVB penetrates much deeper into skin layers than UVC, and more likely to cause skin cancer.

With resistence and super-bug issues THE biggest topic in fighting infections of all types, and UVC 254 already proving to be a resistence-buster, it should be placed as a top priority.

Note that UVC 254 is used here is US in sterilizing surgical rooms, air duct systems, labs, and surface sterilizers can be purchased on Amazon, BUT devices set up for medical treatment use cannot. I recommend NOT trying to use a $50 product for sterilizing keyboards on skin - the requirement for exacting precision in wavelength and application etc requires devices designed just for human treatment. Unfortunately, I will have to fly overseas to get such treatment as it stands today.
