Yes to both, Cherry juice does help, but you have to chug a whole bottle of it to get much good, (which I've done before I got my diet under control) and then you get the runs pretty badly. I do drink it, but it's not all that effective. Biggest change for me was eliminating baked goods- yeast sets it off for me. Gout occurs in the spring- to you get the spring weather change and swell up, which sucks. Right now, thanks to the iodine, I'm typing with both hands, although this morning my left hand just didn't move. I had very good luck with Iodine in the past, got rid of Fibrocystic BD-I followed the Brownstein protocol to the letter.
I tried quite hard to fix my thyroid, but I was repeatedly disappointed with the tsh test, so I do take the thyroid replacement hormone, at least in small quantities. Gout is associated with an under active thyroid, I'm 62, I'm pretty sure that due to where I grew up, my thyroid gland just doesn't work correctly, and it's something I just have to deal with.
I have friend with gout who drank so much cherry juice he went into anaphalactic shock from an allergic reaction and had to get carted off to the emergency room. So the cherry juice remedy has it's limits. Gout is thought to be heredity, so I guess I did a lousy job of picking my parents.
Best thing to do about gout, treat yourself for parasites before you are 55 years old like I was- that very likely didn't help matters for me. Don't get fat, if you are hypothyriod, realize that's a contributing factor to a lot of bad things and use Iodine to fix your thyriod if you can.
