That sounds similar to how I got sick. I drank water that had parasites in it without knowing it until months later when it was posted in the paper.
I went to the doctor every two weeks and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. They said I had some sort of internal infection, but after 4 rounds of different Antibiotics and them not helping me they told me I had gallbladder disease or an ulcer and they recommended that I have surgery to have my gallbladder removed.
Basically, doctors are just making guesses.

If I had known then, what I know now, I would have used the Iodine recipe for salmonella treatment:

6 drops Lugol's Iodine in a half glass of water, every hour for six hours.

Then I would have followed up with a good probiotic supplement 3 X a day.

And finally some vitamins and minerals to support the adrenals:
Magnesium Malate
Patothenic Acid
B-Complex
B-12

Also Ashwagandha can be great for strengthening and rejuvenating the system during sickness and speeds up recovery.
