Greetings,

My most recent Master-Cleanse was far from ideal, but I did the best that I could under the circumstances. I've had a strange swing in pH levels during and after the Master-Cleanse and would appreciate comments and suggestions.

First, I have to say that I understand that none of the "MCs" in this series was long enough for true cleansing. I use "MC" as a way of indicating what I was consuming and doing at the time. I do think that this series of short fasts did remove some toxins, as the Herxheimer Effect reduced each time, and so I have benefited. I'm hoping to do a proper Master-Cleanse in the near future. I have a lot of detoxing yet to do.

I just finished a series of short MCs. I had to do a series rather than a complete single MC because of surprisingly high toxin loads from a stressful year, which included my first illnesses in 4 years plus surgery with anti-biotics. The shortest MC lasted about 3 days and ended due to extreme brain fog; another ended at day 4 with such a heavy white coating on my tongue, inside my mouth, and coating my tonsils and throat that it made me gag. The longest MC was about 7 days. All together, I think I did about 7 short MCs over the course of about 5 weeks.

I did not intend to do a series, but aimed for a complete 10-day cleanse with an option to continue if my body was up to it. However, I listened to my body and ended each one when it seemed better to do so than to continue. Most were followed by optimal nutrition, mild exercise and rest.

This is the 10th time I have started off to do an MC, and all except the first (about 3 years ago) went off without a hitch. This most recent one (this time, a series) was fraught with unexpected problems. Each MC lasted longer than the previous one, and Herxheimer symptoms reduced over the 5 weeks. I only ended this series to give my body an extended rest and recovery time, and intend to do a new one in a month or so, after a liver flush.

All MCs were done according to the standard protocol, except the first 2 or 3, when I tried to combine a parasite cleanse and learned to not do so! All others used grade B maple syrup or molasses, increasing amounts of cayenne as I was able to tolerate it, lots of water, and senna in a pattern of 3 days on/2 days off to prevent intestinal dependence. On the days without senna, I used molasses in the drinks as I'd noticed a strong laxative effect with molasses in previous MCs. I only neglected the salt water flush twice during this time, and used other detoxing methods (detox foot pads, detox baths, walking, dry skin brushing) when time permitted and the toxin load indicated a need.

I've described this in detail to give a context in case one of these details might help with an answer to my question.

I kept track of my pH almost every day. My pH was quite low throughout all the MCs, averaging around 5.5 for urine and 6.0 for saliva, with the numbers being slightly higher at night and slightly lower in the morning.

Now that I'm on day 3 coming off the MC, and am eating solid food again (mostly vegetables in broth), my saliva pH is still low - around 6.5 - but my urine pH has increased dramatically to 7.8 at the latest reading at night.

What the...?

I intend to do a thorough investigation of my pH using a proper diet and measurement protocol described in a book on pH testing, and have ordered alkalizing supplements to take once the testing period is over.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
