I'm nearly 8 months post-removal and going through a bit of a rough patch. I really felt like I was getting better back in October, and had a great Thanksgiving, but in early December a lot of my Mirena-type stomach problems came back, and I started having a terrible drunk-dizzy-detached-foggy feeling all the time.

Luckily, I discovered that the dizziness was a side-effect of progesterone cream, which really helped with my removal symptoms for about 3 months -- but must have built up in my system. I have stopped using the cream for about a month, and the dizziness/fog has gotten a lot better, only reappearing about a week before my period when natural progesterone levels are highest (right about now actually).

However, the stomach problems persist. I had the bizarre experience this last year with Mirena of picking up a stomach infection every friggin month, and with testing positive for some very rare/strange parasites that required constant treatment (I have travelled a lot in the past and my Dr. figures these bugs were dormant or asymptomatic in my system until mirena screwed up my Immunity). I was finally testing clean for all of these infections and feeling a lot better, and honestly thought all of this was behind me. However, for peace of mind, when I started feeling bad, I had myself tested again for infection. (BTW, i have DNA stool testing done through Metametrix labs if anybody is interested)

Test results came back this week and BINGO! I have **HOOKWORM** which is a disease of developing nations, very rare in the States, and could only have been picked up years ago in my travels. I also have ANOTHER bacterial infection in my gut. Ugh. But why should I get infected NOW after all this time and multiple treatments??

This article explains how increased progesterone can TRIPLE parasite loads. Apparently it's been documented in several experiments that high progesterone and increased susceptibility to infection go together.

If you have a history of infection or problems with parasites, you may want to avoid progesterone cream, ladies. I have a feeling that the hookworm and I weren't bothering each other until the progesterone cream caused their population to skyrocket in my system. I am now on some very nasty meds to get rid of them, but hope to be feeling better shortly! (fingers crossed . . .)
