I'm going to inject a little different perspective than what you are responding to.

Education and technology are wonderful but the farther we "advance" in that direction the easier it is for many of us to forget that we are an eternal spirit - separate from our body.  Even the Western religions have that knowledge thoroughly confused because they too have lost or more appropriately denied the teachings of the those who came and preached to them.  You do not have to be religious to recognize yourself as spirit - in fact, many of those that I know who recognize themselves as spirit abhor religion because of the dogmas.  Many, many people are very psychic and have been all their lives - in fact everyone is psychic, all we have to do is to get in touch with that aspect of ourselves.

I have worked on a psychic level for more than 30 years assisting others in their spiritual growth.  Many people I've worked with have asked about departed relatives and many times the departed spirit is lost, they have not found their next step, or the tunnel, or the angels of light.  I have techniques that I use to assist them to make that next step and connect with entities of light and have been successful on several occasions.  My view is that there is no punishment after death, only love and light as Rudi has posted so many times.  What does happen though is there are many departed spirits who are in torment because they can't find that light, or that entity of brightness who will guide them back to the All That Is.  Most of the time it is because they as spirit don't accept the fact that they no longer have a body and are trying to stay tied to this reality and are unwilling to let it go.  That's exactly what "ghosts" are.  Yes, I've been able to assist "ghosts" to move on from homes or places that they were not welcome by those who were living with them.  In fact, I was able to assist a close relative in that regard who I found following me around a few days after his death.  I asked him how things were going and he replied "I want to go home."  Hey - without a body that isn't possible so I found some entities of light and asked them to help him and he was able to move on.  Again, there are wandering or tormented souls who have not found that light and that could easily be what the person whose post you are responding to is experiencing.  By the way, I did have a NDE at a very early age, but without the tunnel and somewhat different than most.  (Rudi - I'll post it one of these days.)
